Among the current Middle Eastern conflicts with regard to which the United States and Iran are at odds, Israel has kept the Gaza Strip under siege in response to Hamas rocket attacks. A number of reports have linked those rockets to Iran, which has delivered weapons shipments to Hamas, as well as helping it to develop its own manufacturing capability. Iran’s history of arms shipments may raise questions about the legitimacy of its plan, reported upon by Tasnim News Agency, to send an aid convoy directly to Gaza.

BAGHDAD, June 23 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry landed in Baghdad on Monday to press Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to form a more inclusive government in response to a Sunni insurgency that has swept much of northern and western Iraq.

While some Iranian officials are trying to use the crisis in Iraq to extract leverage from the US, others are employing it to gain more political leverage against the US. Supreme Leader Khamenei took to Twitter to further spread Iranian conspiracy theories suggesting that Western powers are behind the ascendance of ISIS amidst the broader uprising of opponents of the Maliki regime in Iraq.
