Iran: How Will Rafsanjani’s Death Affect Regime?

In his January 10 article for Al-Arabyia, Heshmat Alavi, political and rights activist who focuses on Iran, writes about the effect of senior cleric Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani’s death by heart attack on Sunday, January 8, at the age of 82.

As Rafsanjani was known for his influential role in shaping the regime’s politics following the 1979 revolution, the Iranian regime was dealt a significant blow, and a power vacuum is created, less than four months prior to crucial presidential elections.

In a January 4 article for American Journal Review, Raymond Tanter, professor emeritus at the University of Michigan, former senior staff member of the National Security Council, and adjunct scholar of The Washington Institute writes about ending the war in Syria.

Although an article on December 12 by Gerald Seib of The Wall Street Journal, quotes President-elect Donald Trump as stating, “We will stop looking to topple regimes and overthrow governments.” Tanter believes that a core principle guides Trump’s international security policy: risk-aversion toward regime change.

German Prosecutor's Indictment Against a Terrorist of Iran Regime Intelligence Ministry

INU - Germany’s Prosecution Office has filed an Indictment against a terrorist dispatched by the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence for reconnaissance of a possible terrorist attack against a German politician. According to German Channel One TV, Reinhold Robbe, a Social Democratic Party (SPD) Politician and former President of the German-Israeli Society (DIG), was spied as a possible target for an assassination attempt by the Iranian regime’s secret service.

Iran: The IRGC Attempt to Rekindle War in Syria Despite Ceasefire

INU - The supreme leader of Iran Ali Khamenei is ordering the IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps) and all affiliated militia to take measures to breach the ceasefire in Syria and to continue killing civilians. The Iranian regime is the main loser in the ceasefire as its interests are completely lost as a result.

Iran May Have Violated Arms Embargo According to UN

The United Nations have expressed concern that Iran may have violated an arms embargo by providing weapons Lebanese to the Shi’ite militia group, Hezbollah.

These concerns are laid out in a forthcoming report from the UN, due to be discussed within the UN Security Council later this month.

Germany charges Pakistani man with spying for Iran

INU - Germany's prosecutors have indicted a Pakistani man on charges of spying for Iran's intelligence agency.

Federal prosecutors said Monday that the 31-year-old, identified only as Syed Mustufa H. due to German privacy rules, was in contact with the spy agency since 2011, the Associated Press reported on Monday.
