This news comes less than a week after Rafsanjani died of a heart attack on Sunday 8th January.

Raisi was one of the leaders in Iran that held a position of power in Iran during the 1988 massacre in which around 30,000 (most of which were members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran – PMOI / MEK) political prisoners were killed.

He is also close to the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Khamenei’s approval will be needed for him to secure the position. Some have even said that he could eventually be Khamenei’s successor.

At the minute Raisi is the custodian of a charity that is in charge of Astan Quds Razavi – Iran’s holiest shrine.

If he does become the leader of the Expediency Council he will be the second person that was on the ‘Death Commission’ of the 1988 massacre to gain a high position in the administration of the Iranian regime. The current Justice Minister of Iran is Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi who was also on the ‘Death Commission’.

Since Hassan Rouhani became president three years ago there have been more than 3,000 hangings. Twenty of these have taken place in 2017 alone. The Iranian people are severely repressed and the regime is cracking down on the people more than ever.

The truth about the 1988 massacre came to light last August when an audio recording of the late Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri’s son released an audio recording of his father telling the ‘Death Commission’ that what they were doing would go down as one of the biggest crimes in history. And he was right – it really is one of the most alarming crimes against humanity that has taken place in recent history.

In 1988 a fatwa was issued by the Supreme Leader at that time – Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. He ordered the death of political prisoners. People were brought to a Sharia judge who asked each one if they were supporters of the Mojahedin. If the answer was ‘yes’ they were sentenced to death by hanging.

Justice Minister Pour-Mohammadi recently said that he was proud to have carried out “God’s will”.

Surely on his arrival to the White House Donald Trump will ensure that this horrific crime will not go unpunished. Especially seeing that several leaders of the current administration in Iran were part of this.
