Quite simply, Gholamhossein Esmaili said, the Islamic Republic does not detain or prosecute people on the basis of political motives. Other regime officials have made similar statements in the past, but these have generally been met with ridicule.
INU - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is warning Europe that Iran is moving towards the “next step” in its plans to increase uranium enrichment levels that are limited by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
He made this announcement yesterday in a bid to increase pressure on the European signatories of the deal – France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Iran has been pressuring the Europeans to alleviate the economical hardships it is finding itself in since the United States exited the nuclear agreement last year.
INU - The former speaker of the US House of Representatives has said that he believes that the tough American sanctions on Iran have shaken the Regime and driven them close to the breaking point.
Newt Gingrich, appearing on Fox & Friends on Tuesday, said: "The sanctions are really biting and, month by month, their economy is getting worse and people are getting more and more unhappy. I think [the Regime is] lashing out desperately, trying to somehow change the circumstance."
