Iranian People Welcome Sanctions Against Regime

INU - US President Donald Trump imposed another round of "hard-hitting" sanctions on Iran this week, specifically targeting supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's foreign minister Javad Zarif and eight senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), which was recently designated as a terrorist organization by the US.

INU - US Senator Tom Cotton has mocked Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s comments about sanctions on the Regime, saying that Zarif is no longer able to spend “his people's money in five-star restaurants”.

The Arkansas Republican appeared on Fox News on Monday evening, shortly after Donald Trump signed an executive order to impose sanctions on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Commanders in response to a series of “aggressive behaviours”, including shooting down a US drone.

Twitter Purges Almost 5000 Accounts Secretly Linked to Iran Regime

INU - Social media site Twitter announced Thursday that it purged thousands of accounts that were linked to coordinated, state-backed activities that it believes are from the Iranian government.

Twitter removed 4,779 accounts that it believed were associated with or backed by Iran and archived them to its public database. Over 1600 of the removed accounts sent out a massive two million tweets that the report said shared “global news content, often with an angle that benefited the diplomatic and geostrategic views of the Iranian state”.

It was widely reported on Thursday that two commercial vessels had been damaged by explosions in the Gulf of Oman. Both of the ships were reportedly en route to Asian at the same time that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was visiting the Islamic Republic of Iran, on a mission to help de-escalate tensions that have been rising since the US substantially ramped up pressure in the form of both sanctions and military deployments in April and May.
