Khamenei continued, “Officials should distance from foreign enemies and their foreign elements… During the 2009 incidents, there were people on the streets chanting against the revolution and religious beliefs, and we faced major difficulties as we did not distance ourselves from such elements.”

In reference to the Iran nuclear deal, he said, “…we could have not trusted the enemy, but in some cases and for some reasons, such as not providing any pretexts to the Americans, we backed down and of course there were no pretexts and we suffered.”

“We trusted the officials who followed up this issue, as we do today, as we consider them our men and believers in religion. However, in this regard, since we believed the words of our counterparts, voids were left and the enemy is currently taking advantage of,” he added.

Khamenei emphasized, “It is obvious that the US is not fond of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and Quds Force, and they will be placing conditions, for example for the IRGC to not exist, the Bassij to not interfere, act like this and that in foreign affairs and such other remarks. However, in complete contrast to the enemy, all our officials must boost Iran’s symbols of strength, such as the armed forces, the IRGC and Bassij, and all other believers. The honorable president in his speech said actions should be taken, yet he is the main individual, along with his team, to implement these measures.”

He also spoke of the threats for the regime posed by social media, “An avalanche of immoral issues that are against our national interests, right and wrong context, right and wrong information, and even half-intelligence are provided to the society. This must be controlled.”

However, a new wave of attacks on Rouhani has begun to weaken him, after Khamenei targeted him and authorized a “fire at will” attack. Fire-at-will inspired attacks on Rouhani’s government by Khamenei clearly shows the Iranian regime’s stand-off in the midst of crises.

State-run Mehr news agency, reported on June 12, that Mohammad-Nabi Habib, head of Motalefeh, warned Rouhani, saying, “Rouhani needs to know that sedition is regime’s red line. So, he must be careful when selecting his colleagues. Regime should not be hit twice by the same cause.” Reminding Rouhani of Khamenei’s criteria on picking cabinet members, Habibi then required Rouhani to “explicitly declare that the 2009 sedition and seditionists are his red line, particularly with regard to picking his cabinet members.”

Habib also referred to the Iran nuclear deal, “The United States violates in all flagrancy the nuclear deal”, said adding “and not only did it not lift the sanctions, but added new ones as well, and called Iran ‘the center of terrorism’. Now after the nuclear deal, the US is expecting the government to pay even more. Adopting UN’s 2030 guidelines, joining FATF and following its orders, signing a nuclear-deal-like missile agreement, introducing the resistance front as the region’s terrorists, and removing Khomeini and revolution from public culture are the prices that must be paid so as to compromise with and satisfy the United States. Moreover, it’s not clear if that’s all that should be paid,” according to Resalat newspaper.

Javan newspaper wrote, “One of the main figures behind the 2009 sedition has said that we must accede to international obligations so the extremist (fundamentalists) won’t take charge.” The Revolutionary Guards linked newspaper then adds “it seems that agreeing to such treaties like the 2030 is along the same line and it’s not unlikely that the same ideology has put that on Rouhani’s table. For instance, when 2030 agenda requires that violent content be removed from educational texts, it means that such stories as the one related to martyr Fahmideh as well as Quran’s Jihad verses have to be removed from Iran’s school books. In a word, it means nothing but going backward.” The state-run newspaper also called on Rouhani to declare opposition to the UN’s 2030 agenda.

Javan newspaper also states in its June 22nd editorial, that “applying sanctions for destabilizing activities shows that there’s no imaginable end to US sanctions against the Islamic Republic. It’s quite clear that moving along the compromise path will bring about more unimaginable, unpredictable costs.”

Referinh referred to Rouhani and his followers as, “…those who in fear of paying a high price for challenge are seeking to adopt a compromising policy and move the Islamic Republic away from resistance and standing against the hegemonic system.”

Rouhani’s reaction was to say “in May 19th election, it was not a selection from between two or more candidates, but it was choosing one of two ideologies, and people chose one. There are some who don’t tolerate, and don’t try to raise their tolerance, either.”

Although Rouhani refers to two ideologies, they are very much the same, as keeping the regime in power is their main goal.
