MEK: Iran Will Not Obey FATF

Indeed, the MEK article states that this is one of the most disputed issues in the Iranian regime’s parliament. Passing it could mean that the West continues to appease Iran and perhaps that Europe helps Iran evade US sanctions through a barter system, but it would require Iran to demonstrate financial transparency, which would reveal the open secret that the mullahs fund terrorist groups, like Hezbollah and Hamas.

Of course, the regime could stop funding the terrorist groups, which combined with the potential help from Europe would mean more money for Iran and could substantially improve the lives of Iranians, but as the MEK has pointed out repeatedly, the regime won’t do that. The regime is built on domestic suppression and the export of terrorism. The Middle East won’t be free from this threat, until the MEK and the Iranian people have overthrown the mullahs.

In an article published on the website, the MEK wrote: “Hassan Rouhani, the president of the mullahs, tried to pass the FATF [bills] in the regime’s parliament. However, the Guardian Council and Expediency Discernment Council prevented him.”

Rouhani, along with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, tried to say that opposition to the bills was down to money launderers. While there’s no doubt that is true, the real motive is to hide their support of terrorist groups, as this would see them remain on the FATF blacklist and probably see international sanctions on the Iranian Regime intensify.

The MEK’s website wrote: “The firm reality in Iran is that the extra-territorial activities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and sponsoring terrorist proxy forces in Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere, prevent the Iranian regime joining the international treaties including FATF. Following the listing of the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization by the US, this regime cannot accept any restrictions on financing its terrorist proxy forces and money laundering by the IRGC.”

The West should listen to the MEK’s warning and realize that now is the time to get tougher on Iran to prevent its export of terrorism. The Regime has, after all, only accelerated its warmongering policies following the MEK’s revelation about the Regime’s nuclear program.

The MEK has long warned the West against appeasing the mullahs, citing the past four decades as evidence that the only right policy on Iran is a firm one with no negotiations. It is time the West also stood on the right side of the history and recognized the right of the Iranian people to resist the mullahs and the MEK as the viable alternative to the regime.

As Maryam Rajavi, leader of the MEK said: “The Iranian people’s immediate demand from the world and their lawful expectation… is for them to recognize the right of the Iranian people’s Resistance to overthrow the mullahs’ theocratic regime to achieve freedom.”
