As the Iranian regime continues to downplay the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic in Iran, their latest concocted death toll figures have apparently exceeded 122,000. However, according to research by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the actual death toll sits at nearly four times the official figure at over 450,000.

The estimates comprised by the MEK have been collected via their extensive network of individuals, who have managed to acquire access to reports and leaked documents from medical facilities, morgues, and government agencies across Iran. They have also spoken to medical professionals who have acknowledged that the extent of the pandemic is far worse than the regime makes it out to be. The regime’s manipulation of the truth began long before the pandemic hit its peak in Iran.

By the time the regime acknowledged there had been even one case of coronavirus infection in Iran, some localities were already in a very dire situation. This resulted in a distinct mismatch between the statements of regime officials.

Back in February 2020, when the regime’s Health Ministry was claiming that the death toll in Iran from Covid-19 was still in the single digits, morgues in the city of Qom were already running at full capacity.

Then-president Hassan Rouhani reportedly claimed that the regime did not delay the announcement that the coronavirus was present in Iran, even though this was later proven false by documents obtained by the Iranian Resistance from the National Emergency Organization.

Those statements might have been delayed even longer if not for the fact that evidence pointed to the likelihood of a large-scale boycott of the February 2020 sham parliamentary elections. Prior to the sham election, though, Tehran had denied the presence of Covid-19 for the sake of similar propaganda.

At the beginning of this year, even though the pandemic was ravaging Iran, the regime-held events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its rise to power and made attendance mandatory for many government employees, with no regard to their health and safety.

More recently, without protocols in place to contain the spread of the virus, the regime encouraged Iranians to celebrate the Shiite religious holiday of Arbaeen, even though the regime’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei chose to celebrate privately to protect his own health.

The regime’s new president, Ebrahim Raisi has supported the mass gatherings this week by drastically exaggerating the vaccination rate, bogusly claiming that 70 percent of the population is protected against the virus while even his own Health Ministry states that the figure is only 20 percent.

Those who couldn’t afford or weren’t connected well enough to obtain vaccines made in America or Europe on the black market have had to resort to taking the domestically produced ones, of which the protection they provide is highly questionable.

Khamenei banned the import of American and European vaccines back in January, instead of pushing for domestic alternatives to be pushed through while obtaining less-effective vaccines from Russia and China. While the ban of the more reputable vaccines was briefly relaxed when the fifth coronavirus wave hit Iran, the regime has once again fully implemented it.

The deputy dean of Iran Medical Services University told the Iranian Student News Agency, “If new variants of the virus enter the country and these variants cause an increase in infections, we might be faced with a sixth peak that is even worse than the previous one.”
