While the number of people who lost their lives to coronavirus has reached 5.6 million across the globe, the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced that the number of Covid-19 fatalities in Iran had surpassed 500,000. In other words, around one-tenth of the total deaths worldwide were recorded in Iran.

The MEK has tallied this statistic through its domestic network, which has expanded in 547 cities across Iran’s 31 provinces. In this context, the MEK has issued daily statements revealing the hazardous coronavirus condition inside the country in contrast to false declarations provided by the Health Ministry.

A Half of Million Mortalities of Coronavirus

“Two years ago, no one could estimate such scale of victims,” Iran observers say. “What imposed on the people of Iran is an additional crime committed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).”

On March 3, 2020, Khamenei dismissed coronavirus as a “not that big a deal.” He even called it a “blessing” and “opportunity.” The Supreme Leader also ordered citizens to pray against the virus “as prayer can solve many problems.”

“In my opinion, this is not that big of a misfortune. We have had bigger calamities. This is a temporary issue. It is not extraordinary. These kinds of events happen in the country. Of course, I do not want to minimize it. But let us not make a big deal out of it. It’s something that has happened, and we hope that it won’t last long,” he said.

Furthermore, the IRGC played a crucial role in transferring the virus from China to Iran. In late 2019, Mahan Air, affiliated with the IRGC Quds Force, continued its flights to/from China while almost all countries and aviation companies had suspended their relations with Chinese counterparts.

At the time, footage provided by citizens revealed how the IRGC had hoarded essential medicine and items such as masks, gloves, and sanitizers. Moreover, residents of coastal cities showed a video disclosing the IRGC had been exporting necessary items to the Gulf States.

Meanwhile, the government refused to provide supportive packages for millions of people hit by the pandemic. Instead, then-president Hassan Rouhani ordered reopening schools, workplaces, and religious and cultural sites in April, which claimed many more souls.

Khamenei Banned Foreign Vaccines, Killed Innocent People

In a message on January 8, 2021, Khamenei publicly banned importing reliable coronavirus vaccines. “The import of American and British Covid-19 vaccines is forbidden,” he said. “I have said this [point] to officials, and now, I am saying it publicly.”

On the same day, the PMOI/MEK announced that around 200,000 people had lost their lives to Covid-19, while official statistics had stood at 55,933, nearly one-fourth of the actual figure.

“Over 198,900 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 478 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, January 8,” the PMOI/MEK stated.

To ease public anger, Khamenei bragged about indigenous vaccines. During cynical publicity stunts, he received two shots of Iran-made vaccines called Barekat. However, Iranians never trusted him and his ambiguous vaccines, which were never verified by the World Health Organization (WHO). The people believed that the dictator had received Pfizer vaccines long before that made-for-tv stunt.

Indeed, the Covid-19 vaccine had become an instrument for the medicine mafia run by the IRGC and its subsidiaries to take profit and plunder millions of people who have no choice but to use IRGC-made vaccines. At the time, health professionals severely challenged Khamenei’s false claims.

“We cannot produce IV fluids at the Pasteur institution; however, we claim to produce six various vaccines,” said Ahmad-Reza Bahremand, a former senior official at the Pasteur institution, on August 15.

On the same day, Amir-Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, one of Ebrahim Raisi’s VPs and the head of the Martyrs & Veterans Foundation, highlighted the mind-boggling amount of the government’s profits through the pandemic. “Coronavirus medication alone brings $111 million in profit per month,” he said in an interview with the state-run TV Channel Five.

The Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) believes that the regime in Tehran has used the coronavirus as a human shield to destroy the people’s spirit for anti-establishment protests.

“To close his regime’s ranks and confront popular uprisings, Khamenei opened the path for the spread of the coronavirus in Iran, causing more than 300,000 deaths to date,” said NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi in her speech on June 20, 2021.
