Teachers Hadi Rashedi and Hashem Sha’bani Amouri, both members of Iran’s Ahwazi Arab minority, were executed in secret at the end of January. Three other Ahwazi Arab men remain at risk of execution.

Reports from inside Iran indicate that pressures are mounting against political prisoners of ethnic origin. Othman Mostafapour, a Kurdish political prisoner in Urumiya prison, was sentenced to another 10 years in prison by the revolutionary court. This sentence was handed down to Mostafapour because he got into a scuffle with IRGC forces. Mostafapour has spent the last 22 years and 5 months in Iranian prisons without any leave. This politically active Kurd was arrested in 1991in the Tagor region of Urumiya, and was later condemned to 25 years in prison on the charge of being a member of an opposition Kurdish party.

According to reports from inside Iran on February 13, political prisoner Javad Fouladvand was sentenced to 18 years in prison because of his membership to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and his contact and contribution to Simay-e Azadi, the Iranian Resistance TV, a round the clock satellite television station broadcasting from Europe. This sentence was handed down on February 8.

It has now been 3 months, 88 days exactly, since political prisoner Arjhang Davoudi has been in solitary confinement. His case is just another example of the extreme physical and psychological pressures used by interrogators of the Ministry of Intelligence.

Two political prisoners are not receiving any medical attention as a means to coerce them to forgo their beliefs.
Mohammad Banazadeh Amirkhizi, a political prisoner in Rajaishahr prison in Karaj city, West of Tehran, who broke his hand while taking a patient to the infirmary has been deprived of any medical care and kept in the ward with agonizing pain. He is not allowed to seek medical care either inside the prison or in hospitals outside the prison.

On Thursday, February 6th, two 12-year old pupils from Kouhrang in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari Province, West of Iran, each suffered severe frostbite due to a harsh punishment assigned by their teacher, a member of Basij force.
