Ms. Rayhaneh Jabbari, a 26-year-old house decorator, is threatened with hanging. She was arrested on the charge of killing a man called Morteza and has spent seven years in prison. The man, as old as Ms. Jabbari’s father and a retired agent of regime’s intelligence ministry, refers to her office and attempts to rape her. In the ensuing scuffle and in self defense, Rayhaneh Jabbari hits the man with a knife that leads to his death.

Just before the new Persian year, a journalist was sent to exile to a prison in Tabriz, northwestern Iran, and three prisoners from the religious minorities went on a hunger strike in their solitary cells to protest unbearable pressures of prison. Also, a prisoner who is a member of the board of directors of laborer unions was returned back to prison from the hospital before he could have a chance to undergo surgery.

In Zahedan (capital of Baluchestan Province, southwestern Iran) Central Prison, a political prisoner went on hunger strike and sutured his lips in protest to anti-human pressures by mullahs’ regime. 

The Provincial Military Commander of Mazandaran (northern Iran) reported on the arrest of a number of boys and girls in two mixed-gender night parties.

The Mehr news agency reported on March 16 quoting Massoud Jafari: “Once the Police Moral Security agents got tipped on a night party, they entered into action and apprehended a number of boys and girls. In the inspection conducted on this villa, some alcoholic beverages were discovered and the culprits were handed over to the judicial authorities and sent to prison. During the investigations it was found that most of the arrestees were from cities of Tehran and Rasht who had been invited by the owner of the villa through the internet.”
