A 16-year-old who has been convicted of killing his playmate has been sentenced to death. On February 9th the state website of Tabnak reported that Abolfazl, the condemned boy, is being held in a correction center and in just four months he will be 17. A year after that when he reaches the age of 18 he can be legally executed.

A report by the New York-based Human Rights Watch, into the plight of Iraqi women, has shocked and horrified members of the European Parliament. The 105-page report is based on evidence from 27 women and contains allegations of rape, sexual abuse, torture and threatened violence against family members, including children.

Amin Khaki is a member of the Christian church in the city of Karaj. On February 5th he was summoned by the Intelligence Ministry for interrogation. The interrogator questioned Khaki for 6.5 hours and ordered him to give up his religious activities and end all relations with members of his church. Khaki firmly declined the interrogator’s demands, refusing to accept any commitment that he found against his religious beliefs. The interrogator threatened that if Khaki continued his religious practices he would be summoned again for interrogation.

Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, a judiciary spokesman, stated in a February 3rd interview with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s Bassij News Agency that the “illegitimacy (of) solitary confinement” is an unwarranted accusation.

Mohammad Javad Larijani, the Iranian judiciary’s director of human rights headquarters, once again attacked UN Special Rapporteur Ahmad Shaheed. Larijani also that Iran will not replicate the West and the US.

In these cold days and nights of the winter, a large portion of urban population who have no home or shelter to spend the night in, pass the night under the open sky of Tehran. Under bridges, abandoned buildings, bus or train stations, under a bench in the corner of a park and anywhere else on a piece of land that one can put on some blankets.
