88 Days: Political Prisoner Arjhang Danvoudi Continues his Months-Long Stay in Solitary Confinement

Reports from inside Iran indicate that he is in cell number five of Bandar Abbas Prison, in southern Iran. During all 3 months of this solitary confinement Davoudi has not been allowed contact with any other prisoners, let alone calls or visits from family.

Davoudi cannot access the prison store and is forced to eat poor quality food. He is tormented by the repugnant smell of sewage in his cell. He is also suffering of severe pain in his shoulder and calf caused by the tortures he has suffered in the hands of the Intelligence Ministry interrogators. He is not allowed any medical care.

Davoudi is a mechanical engineer at Texas University and his “crime” was founding the Movement for Iranians Freedom and writing a manifest against the Islamic Republic as well as supporting the Iranian Resistance and the residents of camps Ashraf and Liberty. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 74 lashes.

In confinement the only people Davoudi ever sees are the occasional group of interrogators from the intelligence ministry there to torment him in the hopes of breaking his resistance. His chief interrogator is Moharam Ali Barari, head of the intelligence of the prisons of the province. He receives his orders directly from the Ministry of Intelligence and Mullah Mahmoud Alavi, the Intelligence Minister of Rouhani’s cabinet.

Davoudi’s prison term ended a few months ago. The interrogators of the Ministry of Intelligence refused to let him go and have since kept him in solitary confinement.

He has been in prison since 2003. As additional incentives for his cooperation the Davoudi’s house and vehicle were confiscated by a written decree from the Office of Ali Khamenei, and also his wife was arrested and kept in solitary confinement for 4 months and physically and psychologically tortured. It is clear the Iranian Regime is willing to do anything to stifle political opposition.
