The Iranian regime has confiscated the house and belongings of the widow and parents of Mostafa Salehi, a recently-executed protester, after they could not pay the 5 billion rials (approximately U.S. $21,700) fine, illegally levied against them.
The Revolutionary Court of Najafabad took the ownership documents and said that everything would be impounded unless they paid soon.
Salehi’s bereaved family were summoned to the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan on September 9 and 10 and told they had to pay 5 billion rials instead of the previous amount, 4.25 billion rials (about $18,450). They objected to this, given that Salehi was innocent, but the court judge and staff refused to listen and just insulted the family.

Salehi, 33, a construction worker and driver, took part in the December 2017 and January 2018 nationwide uprisings over the high cost of living and government corruption, alongside his wife. He is survived by his wife, parents, and two young children – Nazanin, 4, and Amir Hossein, 6.
He was executed on August 5, 2020, on bogus allegations and enforced confessions. Following his death, the Judiciary demanded blood money from Salehi’s family.

Salehi denied the charges and was initially cleared, but the case was reopened after the IRGC Intelligence Department put pressure on the judiciary.
A source close to his family said: “He is innocent, he was forced to confess in front of the camera against himself, he did not plead guilty in court, there was no evidence. They executed him at the request of Shahsanayi’s family.”
The execution was an attempt by the regime to intimidate the Iranian people, discourage them from protesting, and coerce them into submission. But if that didn’t work, the regime is now threatening the victim’s families, so that even if protesters do not care about their own lives, they will want to protect their families.
Also in August, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of five other men, all in their 20s, from Isfahan who took part in these protests. They are Mehdi Salehi Ghale Shahrokhi, Mohammad Bastami, Majid Nazari Kondori, Hadi Kiani, and Abbas Mohammadi. Each man was sentenced to two death sentences for “waging war against God”, “taking up arms against the government” and “corruption on earth”. They all report having been tortured into making confessions.
