Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has issued a sharp condemnation of recent abductions and executions of Iranian dissidents carried out by the Iranian regime. In a statement, Mrs. Rajavi highlighted the cases of three abducted and executed individuals from Europe: Farajollah Kaab Osayved, Jamshid Sharmahd, and Ruhollah Zam, urging the governments of Germany, Sweden, and France to address these cases at the United Nations Security Council. She emphasized the need for an immediate international response to these acts, stating that failing to hold the Iranian regime accountable would likely embolden it to continue such actions.
Mrs. Rajavi recalled that the NCRI had previously urged international intervention as early as November 1, 2020. At that time, the NCRI warned against the regime’s transnational targeting of dissidents and called for these European governments to oversee the safe return of Osayved, Sharmahd, and Zam. According to Rajavi, the Iranian regime’s history of abductions and assassinations outside its borders warrants urgent international oversight, and it’s critical for the international community to ensure that such actions align with international human rights laws.
Mrs. Rajavi also argued that the return of Iranian figures like Assadollah Assadi and Hamid Noury from Belgian and Swedish custody has made the regime feel emboldened in its use of transnational repression and violence. To counter this, she has called for comprehensive sanctions against the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). She insists these entities should be designated as terrorist organizations, with all affiliated agents and representatives expelled from Europe. Additionally, she advocates for the closure of Iranian embassies across Europe, which she alleges function as hubs of espionage, terrorism, and illicit operations.
In response, the NCRI Secretariat reiterated Rajavi’s stance, urging international unity against Iran’s systematic kidnappings, executions, and suppression of dissidents. Rajavi’s calls for sanctions, expulsions, and embassy closures reflect a concerted effort by the NCRI to mobilize the global community, underscoring the belief that failure to act decisively would only increase the Iranian regime’s propensity for international abductions and hostage-taking.
