Maryam Rajavi Urges Action on 1988 Iran Massacre of the MEK: Part 5

In our previous pieces, we learned that no one has ever been prosecuted for the massacre, which was solely intended to eliminate the members and sympathizers of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK); something proven more so by the arrest and execution of former MEK prisoners. We also looked at the West’s silence and how this has given impunity to the regime through the failed appeasement policy. Now, we will look at why it’s imperative to end this impunity.

Maryam Rajavi said: “The time has come for the international community to end three decades of impunity for the clerical regime leaders in Iran and to hold them accountable for their crimes… for referring the dossier of human rights violations in Iran, particularly the executions of the 1980s and the 1988 massacre, to the UN Security Council… for Khamenei and his accomplices to face justice for committing crimes against humanity… for the United Nations to launch an international fact-finding mission on the 1988 massacre in Iran. And… for the world to recognize the right of the people of Iran to resistance and struggle to overthrow the mullahs’ religious fascism.”

She called on the international community, especially the United Nations, the European Union, and their member states, as well as all advocates of human rights and justice, to end the impunity of those responsible for the 1988 massacre.

Maryam Rajavi said: “How could the world tolerate sitting in the United Nations side by side with those directly involved in the massacre of tens of thousands of prisoners? How could they negotiate and do commerce with them? This is a travesty for human rights. This is providing space for extremism and fundamentalism. This is trampling justice and democracy, not only in Iran but throughout the Middle East and all around the world. The massacre of political prisoners in Iran has been the worst massacre of prisoners since the Second World War.”

She then urged her compatriots in Iran and abroad to “advance and expand” the justice-seeking movement for the victims of the 1988 massacre through any means,  highlighting that it is the movement of the oppressed, the suppressed, the bereaved, the abused, the humiliated, and the outraged

Maryam Rajavi said: “Anyone whose conscience is wounded by so many crimes, is a member of this movement.”

She noted that the Iranian Resistance represents peace rather than the Regime’s warmongering and belligerence, saying that the Resistance has managed to end the Iran-Iraq war, exposed the Regime’s “ominous” bomb-making program, and called out the weaknesses of the nuclear deal.

Maryam Rajavi said: “Now, we have vowed to stand firm on this call for justice. We will persevere until we pour the poison chalice of human rights and the poison chalice of the 1988 massacre down the throat of this regime… The Call-for-Justice movement carries on. We will continue until all the details of this horrible crime are revealed until the graves of all our sisters and brothers are found until the regime of the massacre is overthrown by the people of Iran, their resistance units and their great Army of Freedom.”
