According to human rights activists, authorities in Iran hanged at least nine inmates within five days. Iranian activists reported that the government has executed at least 143 prisoners since the Persian new year on March 21.

However, this is not the actual number of the executed people because more than 70 percent of death penalties have been implemented in secret, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

Ali-Mardan Boland-Gerami Hanged at Yasuj Prison

At dawn on Wednesday, September 8, Iranian authorities executed Ali-Mardan Boland-Gerami at Yasuj Prison, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, the human rights association No to Prison – No to Execution reported.

According to activists, Mr. Boland-Gerami had been detained four years ago for murdering his wife. However, further investigations revealed that the wife had died while she was asleep. The forensic center also declared that she lost her life due to internal bleeding; however, there was no sign of beating and mistreatment of her corpse.

Regarding the lack of evidence, the judge issued his ruling based on Qasameh. Based on the Islamic Republic’s Penal Code, whenever there was no reliable evidence, the oaths of 50 male relatives of the victims allow the judge to punish the accused person.

In this context, 50 male relatives initially swore, then executioners hanged Mr. Boland-Gerami while his wife had lost her life in sleep, not in a family party or a public gathering. Indeed, this is another instance of systematic and gross human rights violations in Iran under theocratic rule.

On the same day, authorities secretly executed at least seven inmates, including three women, at the notorious prison of Rajaeishahr in Karaj city, Alborz province. One of the executed inmates was identified as Abdolrahim Khani.

There is no information about other victims, and state media only reported one execution, which belonged to manslaughter during a fabricated car accident. The media avoided reporting further details about other executed inmates.

According to inmates and individuals familiar with the prison’s procedures, authorities regularly implement death sentences on Mondays and Wednesdays. Prisoners call these days ‘Black Mondays and Wednesdays,’ when there are fears of losing their friends and cellmates.

Adham Maksani Hanged Based on Intelligence Officer’s Demand

Based on an intelligence officer’s demand, authorities in Iran hanged Adham Maksani at Iranshahr Prison in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan at dawn on Saturday, September 11.

The human rights campaign of Baluch activists reported that Mr. Maksani was hanged at the prison after enduring ten years of prison. According to the report, following the manslaughter of his wife, he referred to a police station on the same day, preventing a family dispute.

In 2012, a court diagnosed the case as manslaughter, ruling Mr. Maksani to life imprisonment. However, authorities suddenly hanged him. A source familiar with the case said that one of the victim’s relatives is an intelligence agent who pressured the court to resume the case and sentence Mr. Maksani to death.

Political Prisoner Yasir Mangoori Is Reportedly Tortured to Death

According to the Kurdish human rights organization Hengaw, political prisoner Yasir Mangoori, 31, was tortured to death at Urmia Prison in the northeastern province of West Azarbaijan. He was married and the father of two children. Authorities had deprived his family of any contact with Mr. Mangoori during the past two months.

Mr. Mangoori was from Piranshahr city and had been detained two months earlier by the local intelligence department. Activists reported that he was subjected to inhuman and brutal torture by intelligence officers, leading to his demise before September 8.

“On Wednesday, September 8, the Mangoori family received a call from the Urmia intelligence department, saying their loved one has lost his life,” a source close to the Mangooris said. “Security institutions continued that Yasir was killed in a conflict with security forces two months ago.”

“Yasser was not armed and was arrested on July 17 after leaving the home,” his family said.
