On the evening of April 20, Ali Moezzi, father of two members of the opposition People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI or MEK), experienced severe nausea and headache in Ward 8 of Evin Prison in Tehran.

The prison wardens did not initially care about his condition. They told him that is condition was not serious. Nevertheless, he got severe nausea within two hours once again and his condition seriously deteriorated.

Eventually Mr. Moezzi was taken to the prison infirmary. He did not get full medical care in the infirmary and despite his continuous state of intoxication, he was returned to the prison ward without any serious handling in order to determine the cause of the poisoning, reports say.

It is believed that Mr. Moezzi has twice been poisoned in prison. The first time was in the winter of 2015. According to prison sources, on that occasion no other prisoner suffered from general food poisoning.
