Unprecedented Record of Hangings in Iran: 113 in Just One Month!

Ebtekar daily wrote on May 10: “Everyone is talking about the low threshold of tolerance in the society and warns about the perils of such a state… the daily realities around us do confirm this danger… any wrong move in this circumstance is like a spark in the gunpowder depot.” Additionally, a number of state-run media warned of people’s ‘sensitivities’ reaching ‘the boiling point’. Some examples of executions carried out since end of April are as follows:

According to Fars News Agency, Hassan Rouhani, the president of the clerical regime, has vividly expressed concern on May 6 for what he has described as the “low threshold of people’s tolerance”!

The state-run Fars news agency reported that ten prisoners were collectively hanged in the main prison in city of Kerman, southeastern Iran, on May 18. Following these killings, 14 other prisoners were also hanged in metropolitan cities of Karaj and Qazvin. In the main prison of Karaj the hangmen removed 10 prisoners from their wards to solitary confinement. This was done under the pretext of transferring them to court or prison’s hospital. They were later executed on following day, May 19.

On May 17, four other prisoners were hanged in city of Qazvin. State-run Mehr News Agency, close to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security, said three people were executed in Qazvin. On the same day, two other prisoners were put on gallows in the central prison of Zahedan ( capital of Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan Province.)

According to a report by another state-run newspaper Resalat, a prisoner was executed in the central city of Garmsar in Semnan Province, northern Iran, on May 15.

On May 14, four prisoners were hanged in the main prison in the city of Urumiyeh. A day earlier, Majid Jalili Ayan, 37, a resident of city of Salmas, was also hanged in the same prison.

Meanwhile, in a clash with prisoners on May 12, the henchmen of Shahr-e-Kord’s central prison shot two prisoners dead at point blank range.

The Iranian regime’s hangmen executed a group of 11 prisoners including a woman in Ghezal Hesar prison in city of Karaj on Friday evening, May 9.

On May 7, three prisoners were hanged in the main prison in city of Qom (central Iran). On the same day a Kurdish prisoner was hanged in city of Sanandaj (western Iran), while another Kurdish prisoner from city of Urumiyeh was executed in the city of Hamadan.

A group of five prisoners were hanged on May 5 in the central prison of city of Kerman and another prisoner in the prison was hanged in city of Semnan (northern Iran).

According to  statements by the main Iranian opposition, National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) the recorded number of the executions since April 21 has therefore reached 113.

Ignoring all these crimes on the pretext ofnuclear negotiations has achieved nothing but to embolden the criminal mullahs ruling Iran. The only way to stop the vicious cycle of killings in Iran is to refer the catastrophic violation of human rights in Iran to the UN Security Council and to have the regime’s leaders brought to justice.
