INU - The President-Elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Maryam Rajavi, has praised the brave protesters in Khorramshahr, Iran, who took to the streets to demonstrate against water pollution on Saturday, and has urged all human rights organizations around the world to condemn the threats on the protesters’ lives by Mohammad-Javad Larijani, the international affairs assistant in the Iranian judiciary.

INU - Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), of which the MEK is the largest member, called for immediate action by the U.N. Security Council after the head of the regime’s judiciary issued threats against participants in this week’s protests in Tehran and other cities in Iran. Mrs. Rajavi also asked for the United Nations to condemn the threats made against the Iranian protesters.

INU - Protests against the severe water shortage in Khuzestan province, Iran, have erupted in the past fortnight.

The residents have already been suffering as a result of low water quality that has left little drinkable water in cities like Abadan, Khorramshahr, and Bawi, with mainly complaining that it tastes salty. While farmers in Khuzestan have been prevented from growing crops that need a high amount of watering, with the Regime producing a list that includes rice and okra, which only needs watering once a week.

INU - Over the past year, the value of the rial has dropped to the point that a U.S. dollar was being offered for as much as 87,000 rials on Sunday, as compared to 75,500 on Thursday of last week. This monetary crisis, and Iran’s generally failing economy, has led to massive protests. In Tehran on Sunday and Monday, protesters shut down several shops in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar.

The rial’s drop in value is only the most recent example of the failing economy caused by the regime’s disastrous and corrupt mismanagement of the Iranian economy.
