Insider news & Analysis in Iran

An American delegation has met and spoken to the seven hostages taken captive during the Camp Ashraf massacre, and who now risk being extradited to face execution in Iran.

Revelations of the visit by US officials - which emerged from sources within Iran - come at a time when the official website of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki on Friday night denied holding the seven Ashraf hostages or having carried out any action on September 1st in Ashraf. Concerning the probe requested by the international community, he claimed that “Khalq Organization” [PMOI] had prevented it!

The seven are the subject of repeated international calls on Iraq to free the captives, who are protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and who Iraq is legally compelled to release.

Further reports have indicated that Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki is currently negotiating with the Iranian regime over the fate of the hostages.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is now said to have given al-Maliki three options to resolve the crisis, according to sources within Iran.

Firstly, transfer the hostages to Tehran as soon as possible, where they would face interrogation, torture and death. Secondly, for Iraq to claim they are being held by Iranian agents; or thirdly that they are in the hands of Iraqi militants opposed to the PMOI.

Iran is known to be demanding the hostages are turned over to Tehran, and intends to force false confessions from the seven, including unfounded admissions that the PMOI has been funding Iraqi terrorist groups, that it was the PMOI that shot its own members in Ashraf in a bid to 'frame' Iraq', and that there is 'moral corruption' within the leadership of the PMOI.

Subsequent to denial by Maliki about presence of hostages in Iraq, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi in Geneva called on President Obama, Secretary Kerry, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Under-Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman, High Commissioner for Human Rights Ms. Pillay, High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Ms. Beth Jones, and Ambassador Beecroft to resort to urgent action to prevent transgression of the non-refoulement principle and extradition of refugees to the Iranian regime.
