Day 22 – Despite harsh repression Iran’s nationwide uprising continues

A memorial for the fallen people of Iran of the recent nationwide uprisings, held by the freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the Resistance.

The protests in Iran prompted calls for international solidarity. Look at the protests that have swept across the country since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini. She died on September 16 due to the misogyny of an Islamist regime whose institutional fear of women is so great that it only knows how to help itself with tyranny and torture against emancipatory forces.

The protesters, led by women and the younger generation, united by slogans like “death to the dictator” channeled the anger about the death of Amini and the grief for many more dead in militant resistance. For example, 16-year-old Nika Shakarami disappeared during the protests and was found dead ten days later, with clear signs of trauma to her body.

The country is on the verge of a revolution that is gripping large sections of Iranian society and will liberate the country from oppressive religious laws.

With the regime making nationwide communication more difficult through internet censorship and blocking of social media, the protesters need even more international visibility and attention because only this can help them to protect themselves from brutal repressions. The uprisings and their actors have the best chance of survival under the observation of the world public and international condemnation of the regime.

Now it is time for the world powers to act severely against the regime and stop appeasement. On October 6, the 21st day of the national uprising continued with protests and strikes. So far, nationwide demonstrations and uprisings have been recorded in more than 170 cities with 400 people killed and 20,000 arrests.

The worst brutal repression was observed in the Sistan and Balutchestan province. According to Amnesty International, the regime killed more than 82 Baluchi protesters and bystanders in Zahedan, including three children.

Amnesty in a tweet on October 7, wrote: “’ Bloody Friday’, 30 September, marked the deadliest day on record since protests began 3 weeks ago.”
