Fear of “Restless Mentality” and “a Dangerous Phenomenon” in Iran

Fear of “Restless Mentality” and “a Dangerous Phenomenon” in Iran

He called for “separation of four narratives from the recent unrest”. H added that “the most important factor” for the November uprising is the same for future uprisings. The so-called “restless mindsets” of the people who, with the help of “any new factor can be problematic” and “end up overthrowing the Islamic Republic.” (Iran Newspaper, 23 November 2019)

Abbas Abdi, one of the so-called reformist figures, has referred to widespread social crises and acknowledged the regime’s inability to resolve these crises, citing them as people’s anger and hatred in the future. “The events of the past few days have shown that the suburbs and critical points have become the Achilles’ heel of social stability. They have no inherent problem and are hardworking and respectable citizens whose marginalization has created a situation where anger and hatred against the government is one of its natural products.” (Iran Newspaper, 23 November 2019)

The Jomhouri Eslami newspaper also warned that government leaders should not make any mistakes, because “insecurity is still there” and should not be happy about the calming down of the riots. It wrote: “the insecurity must be identified and eradicated.” (Jomhouri Eslami newspaper, 23 November 2019)

From the perspective of this newspaper, the livelihood pressures will push people to protest, and “we will again see the evils of insurgency and insecurity, and officials should not be satisfied that poor people rise because of the subsistence pressures. This is a dangerous phenomenon, a dangerous one.” (Jomhouri Eslami newspaper, 23 November 2019)

The most striking feature of the November uprising is the intensity of the incitement by the people and its tendency to attack the security outposts and government-affiliated centers, an element that has frightened the rulers, including the heads of the repressive forces. The state-run newspaper Javan wrote: “In the face of security challenges such as recent events, the strength and capacity of the Islamic Revolution have also been demonstrated.” And the Kayhan newspaper is also happy that the government was not overthrown during the November uprising but “persisted in the security duels of the revolutionary forces and the internal and external auxiliaries” (Kayhan, 23 November 2019)

But all the state columnists and senior government officials are well informed about the volcano of the anger of the people, which they saw just a glimpse of in this uprising. Looking at their previous remarks, it seems they have no way to calm down the situation which is getting worse. As the Rouhani-affiliated website, Bahar prospected that, “this wound will be opened at another day.” (7 January 2018) Mostafa Tajzadeh, a member of the so-called reformist faction, also expressed hope that government leaders would not think that “this is a short-term issue and that they will forget that this is an inflated society by calming down the gatherings and conditions” (Etemad daily, 7 January 2018). Sadegh Zibakalam, a supporter of Rouhani’s government, also predicted that “even though the regime is turning its face from these dissatisfactions, these dissatisfactions will happen from time to time.”(Khabar Online website, 7 January 2018)

The continuation of the uprising by the people, especially the fearless youth, is despite the increasing brutality that the repressive forces exert on the protesters. People have realized that this regime does not provide a solution to many crises, while it is the cause of these crises. Therefore, the government can never remove the issue that’s at the heart of the Iran protests, which is the overthrow of the entire government, as it has failed to eradicate it by suppressing the people.

The rise of the people against the repressive forces and targeting the regime’s repressive and looting centers, despite the previous uprisings and protests attest to this fact, and it is not without reason that one hour after the start of the November uprising, the slogans changed to negating the integrity of the regime and overthrowing it.
