Iran in September, the Month of Teachers’ Protests

In September 2021, a total of 340 protest movements were formed in Iran in 109 cities in 30 provinces by different strata. The main and significant protests were held by the country’s teachers protesting their miserable situation while living below the poverty line.

While their protests are now continuing in October the regime expressed many times its fear and many state media outlets asked the government for a solution, fearing the regime will experience more intense protests.

The situation of the protests of different strata is as follows:

  • Educators and teachers: 145 cases in 57 cities in 26 provinces
  • Workers: 65 in 26 cities in 11 provinces
  • Retirees: 15 cases in 8 cities in 8 provinces
  • Creditors: 7 cases in 3 cities in 2 provinces
  • Businessmen: 2 cases in 1 city in 1 province
  • Students: 2 cases in 1 city in 1 province
  • Truckers: 2 cases in 2 cities in 2 provinces
  • Farmers: 1 case in 1 city in 1 province
  • Poultry farmers: 1 case in 1 city in 1 province
  • Doctors: 1 case in 1 city in 1 province
  • Taxi drivers: 1 case in 1 city in 1 province
  • Other classes: 90 cases in 48 cities in 18 provinces
  • Prisoners’ hunger strike: 8 cases in 2 cities in 2 provinces

In this process, cultural figures held 145 protest movements in 57 cities in 26 provinces, which are as follows:

Gathering of teachers and educators according to the call in Tehran, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Torbat Heydariyeh, Mashhad, Boroujerd, Aligudarz, Azna, Doroud, Khorramabad, Ahvaz, Izeh, Abadan, in protest of the non-implementation of the faculty ranking and matching plan and other demands.

Gathering of teachers and educators according to the call in Sari, Yazd, Hamedan, Mamasani, Malayer, Mashhad, Kuhdasht, Kermanshah, Karaj, Qom, Qazvin, Shahroud, Sanandaj, Zanjan, Divandere, Shahrekord, Tabriz, Ardabil, Arak, Abadan in protest to the failure to implement the ranking and matching plan of the faculty and other demands.

Gathering of teachers and educators according to the call in Tehran, Ardabil, Tabriz, Ilam, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Torbat Heydariyeh, Mashhad, Yazd, Bushehr, Bandar Abbas, Gachsaran, Yasuj, Shahrekord, Sari, Rasht, Bojnourd, Shirvan, Delfan, Khorramshahr, Behbahan, Bandar Mahshahr, Andimeshk, Izeh, Ahvaz, Abadan, Kuhdasht, Aligudarz, Doroud, Khorramabad, Shahr Babak, Kerman, Saqez, Marivan, Divandere, Sanandaj, ر Kazerun, Ashkanan, ‌ Rostamshahr, Noorabad Mamasani, Lamerd, Shiraz, Zanjan, Qazvin, Karaj, in protest of the non-implementation of the faculty ranking and matching plan and their other demands.

Gathering of teachers in Qom and Arak to protest the non-implementation of the ranking plan of 80% of the faculty for employed teachers and the non-implementation of pension equalization for retired teachers.

Gathering of teachers according to the call in Yasuj, Charosta, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Tabriz, Bandar Abbas, Ilam, Ahvaz, ‌ Shiraz, Dehdasht, Karaj, Isfahan, in protest of not receiving their demands.

Some 22 days of the gathering of green card teachers from different cities in Tehran to protest their employment status. They also did not leave the protest place even at night.

Teachers of the service purchase plan in Yazd protested twice the non-receipt of their arrears and indecision for months.

Gathering of the county teachers in Tehran to protest the non-response to their demands.

Consecutive protest of literacy movement teachers in protest of non-response to their demands in Tehran.

A gathering of young teachers in protest of the discrimination of extraordinary special percentages in Tehran.

Teachers gather in Varamin to protest the land grabbing of regime officials and inadequacy in handing over land to build educator’s housing.

Gathering of educators of Dezful literacy movement in protest of not addressing their demands and not changing employment status.

Gathering of Izeh preschool teachers to follow their return to work.

A gathering of cultural figures of Mehrafarin project from several provinces in Tehran to protest not changing their employment status despite 20 years of work experience.

Workers’ protests:

During this period, workers held 65 protest movements in 26 cities in 11 provinces, which are as follows:

Petroleum, Petrochemical, and Power Plant Workers:

This month, petroleum, petrochemical, and power plant workers held several one- to several-day rallies, as follows: IGC workers on Phase 14 projects in Kangan, electrical and utility workers on Phase 2 of Abadan Refinery, Project Workers Working in West Karun Power Generation Company, Fajr Jam Gas Refinery Workers, port Khomeini Petrochemical Workers, project Workers of Pars Ghodrat Contracting Company Working in Kangan Petroleum Refinery, workers working in Companies Established in Phase 14 Development of Asaluyeh, Bushehr petrochemical workers, workers of South Tehran company in Mahshahr, oil project workers in Tehran, contract workers of National Copper Industries Company.

Mining workers:

In September, workers in the private coal mines of Kerman province and the Goltut coal mine went on strike for several days.

Municipal workers:

This month, municipal workers in the cities of Lali, Kut Abdollah, Dehdasht, Ahvaz, Omidieh, Abadan, Arvand Free Zone, Hoveyzeh, Miandoab, Khorramshahr, Yasuj, Saravan, staged several rallies and strikes.

Workers at the Haft Tappeh Sugar Company went on strike for several days.

Also workers of Mobin Road Construction and Mining Company in Shahr-e Babak, workers of Pars Paper Company and its subsidiary in Shush, employees of Shasda Shipbuilding Company in Khorramshahr, workers of Khuzestan Cement Company, workers of Maroon Sanat Company of Tehran in Ashto Jan Industrial Town, workers of Shafarood Dam in Rezvanshahr, Kayson workers in Ahvaz urban train project, workers of Zarrineh operation company in Miandoab, Ahvaz rural telecommunication workers, Mehrshahr metro workers, Tehran first, second, fourth and fifth metro power line workers and workers of Azadi sports complex, went on strike and protested.

Retiree’s protest:

Retirees staged 15 protests in eight cities in eight provinces, which is as follows:

Rally of retirees of the Ministry of Health in Urmia, Sari, Tabriz, Gorgan, Isfahan, Ahvaz, and Rasht in protest of non-equalization of salaries and bonuses.

Other retirees of Ahvaz, Isfahan, and Tehran protested their living conditions too.

Creditor’s protest:

Creditors held 7 protests in 3 cities in 2 provinces, which are as follows:

Gathering of Caspian Institute (Fereshtegan) creditors in Tehran to protest the non-receipt of their demands.

Amin Fund remitters gather in Khuzestan to protest the non-receipt of their deposits.

A 4-day gathering of the creditors of the Alborz construction project in protest of the corruption of the judiciary.

Businessmen’s protests:

The businessmen held 2 protests in 2 cities in 2 provinces, which are as follows:

Plasco businessmen gather to protest the not handing over of their shops by the municipality.

Businessmen of Aladdin Passage gather in Tehran to protest the fraud of government agents.

Student protests:

The students held 2 protests in 1 city, which is as follows:

Gathering of medical students at Mashhad Azad University internship in protest of the illegal increase of Azad University tuition in recent years.

Truckers’ protest:

The truckers held 2 protests in 2 cities in 2 provinces, which are as follows:

Gathering of truck drivers working in Pars Foolad Sabzevar (Joven) due to negligence and low fares.

Gathering of drivers of the transportation fleet modernization project in Tehran to protest the non-receipt of imported trucks which they had bought from the Highways Organization but has not been cleared through customs.

Farmers’ protest:

Farmers in Isfahan gathered to protest the non-receipt of their water rights.

Poultry farmers protest:

The country’s poultry farmers gathered in Tehran to protest the unhealthy situation of chicken and poultry prices.

Doctors’ protest:

The medical interns of Mofid Hospital in Tehran gathered to protest the decisions of the hospital’s training authorities regarding sending interns from Mofid Hospital to Masih Daneshvari Hospital and the lack of proper educational planning for the interns’ attendance.

Taxi drivers’ protest:

Jahrom taxi drivers went on strike to protest the involvement of SNAP (an Internet taxi company owned by the IRGC) in their work.

Protests of other strata:

Different strata of the country also had 90 protests in 48 cities of 18 provinces, which are listed in the following categories:

200 people and relatives of Abbas Gholi Salehi, who was executed after 20 years of prison, gathered in front of Dastgerd prison before his execution and demanded that the sentence be stopped.

A group of Ilam residents gathered in front of the Greater Tehran Prison to protest the assassination of Amir Hossein Hatami at Greater Tehran Prison.

Protests the lack of liquefied natural gas:

People of Qarchak, Varamin, Pishva, Robat Karim, Saveh, Shahriyar, Tabriz, Saveh protested the lack of liquefied natural gas.

Protests of power outages, water shortages, rising water, electricity, telephone bills:

The people of Ghiamdasht in Tehran gathered to protest the sudden rise in electricity bills.

People of Shahr-e-Ray protested the astronomical telephone bills.

The people of Kashkasra in the central part of Marand gathered in front of the ABFA office in protest of the lack of drinking water and frequent water cuts in all parts of the city and closed the Tabriz-Bazargan international route.

House, land, and agriculture owners’ protests:

Members of Saba Evin Darkeh Cooperative, residents of Mehr Kaparani Housing, owners of Mehr Pargan Housing in Barzjan, shareholders of Khazar Sabz Guilan Housing Cooperative, buyers of Shahriar Tabriz twin towers, residents of Khairabad Paduk village (Gachsaran), applicants for housing in Saveh, ‌members of Mehr Housing Cooperative in Tabriz, residents, and retirees of Zaytoun Sorkheh Hesar town, residents of Qaleh Gah village (Sanandaj).

Car remittance protests:

Remittance holders of Shahr Khodro Company in Tehran, remittance owners of Azovico Company in Tehran, remittance owners of Ghaem Commercial Complex project in Yaftabad, shareholders of Alborz construction project in Tehran, remittance owners of Saipadizel Company in Tehran, car remittance owners (Jam).

Oil industry workers, refineries, oil workers:

Official personnel, and local contractors of Bahregan oil region, Bandar Khomeini Petrochemical employees, Kavian Petrochemical employees in Assaluyeh.

Other protests:

Several gatherings of Tehran and Qom Telecommunication Company forces in protest of non-implementation of employment status change laws.

Following the court ruling to stop the water source of the mountains of Blockan to the Blockan village and transferring it to the village of Dastjerd and the presence of the police force for this transfer, the residents of Blockan village confronted the police force.

Workers who proved the Qeshm Refinery Heavy Oil Recruitment test protested the uncertainty of the employment situation.

Several gatherings of Cryptoland exchange users protesting the non-response of the authorities to their demands.
