On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Iranian people from all walks of life, particularly college students, marked National Student Day with significant strikes and protests across the country. According to local reports, students boycotted classes in at least ten major universities in Tehran and held anti-regime rallies.
Furthermore, citizens continued anti-regime protests and strike in Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Mashhad, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Adak, Ilam, Hamedan, Kerman, Bandar Abbas, Zahedan, Kamyaran, Oshnavieh, Marvdasht, Bushehr, Lahijan, Marivan, Divandarreh, Javanrud, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Shahinshahr, Qazvin, Qorveh, Karaj, Bandar Anzali, Tonekabon, Jam, Borujen, Hafshejan, Zarrinshahr, Saqqez, Kerend, Baneh, Eslamshahr, Sarableh, Kuchesfehan, Langarud, Paveh, Abdanan, Shahrekord, Khoshkebijar, Ravansar, Babol, Mahabad, Sari, Bukan, Rasht, Bandar Genaveh, Shahr-e Babak, Delgan, Najafabad, Dehgolan, Kuzaran, Fuladshahr, Quds City, Fuladshahr, Golshahr, Gohardasht, Behbahan, Ahvaz, Robat Karim, Semirom, Ardakan, Yasuj, Qom, etc.
Seventy-one years ago, on this day, hundreds of Tehran University students protested against Shah Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi’s coup against Dr. Mohammad Mosaddeq’s government. In response, Shah’s security forces opened fire at students, killing three students and injuring more.
Since then, as the country’s Student Day, December seventh has inspired thousands of students every year to voice their anger against any kind of tyranny. This year, regime officials, including president Raisi, notorious for the mass killing of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988, attended the universities following more than three months of anti-regime demonstrations.
Raisi attended Tehran University while security forces had detained several protesting students days before. However, other students raised their voices against him on campus. “Students die but never give in to disgrace,” “Imprisoned students must be released,” “Students are awake and loathe tyranny,” and “Silence is a shame! Freedom is our culture” students chanted.
“I salute the courageous university students who rose up today across #Iran despite brutal attacks and massive arrests by repressive forces,” said Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. “With chants of ‘Death to Khamenei,’ they seek the criminal mullahs’ overthrow.”
December 7 marked the 83rd day of anti-regime protests in Iran. The demonstrations began following the heinous murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, in police custody. However, it immediately turned into a revolution against the entire theocratic regime.
According to the Iranian opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), the protests have extended to 280 cities. The regime has killed over 700 citizens, injured tens of thousands, and detained more than 30,000. The MEK has published the names of 565 killed protesters.
As of 6:30 pm Tehran time on December 6, protests in #Iran have expanded to 280 cities.
