On Friday, December 9, 2022, Iran’s revolution, the brave people of Sistan & Baluchestan once again came to the streets shouting death to Khamenei. The images and news published on social media indicate that the people of Zahedan, the capital of the province protested the execution of Mohsen Shekari as well as the arbitrary execution and killings of their compatriots.

They expressed their condolences to the people of Tehran. On the placards, they wrote: “You have executed Mohsen Shekari; expect revenge.”

The angry people shouted: “I’ll kill those who have killed my brother”, “Political prisoner must be freed”, “Death to Khamenei”, “Death to the IRGC” and “Death to the Basic”, etc.

They carried and installed a big banner reflecting the unity of the country’s nationalities and ethnicities including the Azari, Baluch, Lor, Persian, Kurd, Bakhtiari, and Arab people.

This shows that the regime’s first execution of a protester had a negative effect, despite its expectations, only increasing the people’s hatred and fury. People in parts of the country are even speaking and getting ready to take up arms in response to any new execution. This will have devastating consequences for the regime.

Despite all the regime’s tricks, most segments of the country’s population continue to fight for regime change. The suppression has been ineffective, so the regime has been forced to start executions despite the UN Human Rights Council’s decision to establish a fact-finding mission to investigate the human rights situation in Iran.

So far, the revolution has achieved many irreversible victories. The regime’s image especially that of the supreme leader is shredded. He has become the main target of the people’s criticism, and people are burning its symbols every day.

December 9 marked the 85th day of anti-regime protests in Iran. The demonstrations began following the heinous murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, in police custody. However, it immediately turned into a revolution against the entire theocratic regime.

According to the Iranian opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), the protests have extended to 280 cities. The regime has killed over 700 citizens, injured tens of thousands, and detained more than 30,000. The MEK has published the names of 580 killed protesters.

  • According to the received reports, Shadman Ahmadi, one of the detainees of the national uprising, died at Dehgolan police station under torture by the regime’s henchmen. After a few hours, they informed his family that Shadman Ahmadi died in detention. The security forces raided his house without presenting a court order and arrested him on the charge of participating in the protests. The security forces pressured his family to bury him at night without the presence of the public.
  • “I am absolutely horrified, shocked, and outraged by the news of the execution of Mohsen Shekari this morning. Iranian authorities must immediately stop the use of the death penalty as a weapon against protesters and must immediately stop all executions,” said UN Special Rapporteur on human rights situation in Iran Javaid Rehman.
  • The British government sanctioned ten Iranian regime officials connected to its prison systems. This included six people linked to the Revolutionary Courts that have been responsible for prosecuting protesters with sentences including the death penalty.
  • The Canadian government imposed fresh sanctions on 22 individuals in Iran, who included senior members of the judiciary, prison system, and law enforcement, as well as political leaders, such as senior aides to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and figures in state-directed media outlets, the statement added.
  • Despite the international condemnation of the regime over the execution of Mohsen Shekari which took place on December 8, the regime’s president Ebrahim Raisi vowed today to increase the pressure on the people and crack down on the protests. He said: “the identification, trial, and punishment of the perpetrators of the [killing] of security forces will be pursued with determination.”
  • Today in a press conference the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk spoke about the execution of Mohsen Shekari, saying the regime’s decision to carry out the death penalty was “clearly designed to send a chilling effect to the rest of the protesters.”
  • S. Treasury sanctioned three security forces commanders due to gross human rights violations. “Iranian security forces have responded with violence to the protests, reportedly killing hundreds, including children, and arresting thousands since September,” the statement read.
