On January 12, Iranian citizens continued their protests against the regime’s plundering and profiteering policies through five rallies in various cities. Medical staff, greenspace workers, preschool educators, and contract forces organized these protests.

The continuation of these protests shows society’s objection against the ruling system. On the other hand, due to the regime’s inability to resolve people’s economic dilemmas, these local protests are fueling public anger.

In this respect, there has been no day without warnings on behalf of both the regime’s factions about society’s volatile conditions and the ruling system’s bleak fate.

Rally of Greenspace Workers

Rally of Greenspace Workers

Lorestan province—in recent weeks, greenspace workers time and again gathered in front of the Khorramabad Municipality–District Two. “We are around 50 people and work in the greenspace areas of the municipality’s 2nd district. We work for a contract company, but our employers have delayed paying our wages for at least eight months,” said a worker.

“In addition to this delay, the municipality was late in paying our insurance rights to the Social Security Organization. This is while our employers have decreased our wages by 7 percent under the excuse of insurance rights,” the protester added.

This protester mentioned that greenspace workers in Khorramabad’s other four districts face similar dilemmas. He said they are also working with the same contractor, and they face the problem of arrears and overdue wages. “[The contractor’s] failure to pay our salaries and insurance rights has made enormous problems for our families,” he added.

“What we greenspace workers receive as a monthly salary is equivalent to the minimum wage, according to the labor law. However, these minimums do not cover our livelihood necessities,” the worker said, adding, “On the other hand, the workers’ salaries are increasing once per year. Despite the increase, our wages are not in line with living expenditures and the real inflation rate.”

“Officials’ lack of responsible sense and inattention toward the workers’ rights have left workers’ dilemmas unsolved and they have deprived us of achieving our basic rights,” the worker ended.

Khuzestan province—a large number of preschool educators held a gathering in front of the local Education Department in Bagh-e Malek city. Protesters demanded the Education Ministry recruit them officially due to their experience. They called on officials to pay attention to their problems.

“Preschool educators of Bagh-e Malek county demand the education department revoke the dismissal directive and recruit them in the department structure due to their insurance background,” protesters wrote on a banner.

“We spent our lifetime and younghood in the field of education,” another banner read.

In recent weeks, many teachers, trainers, members of the literacy movement, and preschool educators held major rallies in Khuzestan province due to the officials’ failure to recognize and respect their inherent rights.

These noble people commonly demand the Education Ministry recruit them officially. However, the regime continuously denies educators’ demands.

This is while they are in dire living conditions, and many of them do not have alternative income. Notably, many of these teachers and intellectuals have spent many years educating and training the next generation. However, they have received poverty, misery, and unemployment in return for their services.
