A rebellion for dignity, freedom, secularism and a republic of accountability is continuing in Iran. What the people of Iran want today is not reform but the demise of a brutal theocratic regime. They want regime change.

And today protests are showing us where we are staying today. Despite the regime’s repression, the people have not kept silent, and the essence of a revolution has become the impulse of the entire nation. Today all the people have come together to change their country’s path.

People have not forgotten the martyrs of the past protests. They chanted “Aban continues,” referring to the bloody November struggles in 2019.

What we see is not a disconnection but a past remastered for the present. Despite all the regime’s efforts to quell the democratic demands of the 1979 revolution, young people born after the revolution are protesting in the same places their parents did.

All the regime’s efforts to prevent the radicalization of the protests have failed. In any upheaval, the first targets of the people have become the regime’s officials, repressive forces, bases, and symbols. The main slogan of the protests has become “Death to Khamenei.”

Change in Iran will occur very soon. We don’t need any proof. The statistics and numbers show that the regime has failed to offer what the people have sought.

Recently the regime’s statistics agency has reported that the inflation in December hit 48.5 percent. This didn’t happen since 1995 according to the World Bank data.

Besides this, a change in Iran will be of benefit to the entire region too. The regime has pushed the Middle East from bad to worse. It has ruined many countries and brought misery, backwardness, and economic collapse.

January 4 marked the 111th day of anti-regime protests in Iran. The demonstrations began following the heinous murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, in police custody. However, it immediately turned into a revolution against the entire theocratic regime.

According to the Iranian opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), the protests have extended to 280 cities. The regime has killed over 750 citizens, injured tens of thousands, and detained more than 30,000. The MEK has published the names of 601 killed protesters.
