On Saturday, November 26, 2022, citizens chanted, “Referendum and reform are the regime’s trick,” addressing so-called politicians and individuals who promote a referendum instead of a revolution.

In his today’s meeting with Revolutionary Guards Basij forces, Ali Khamenei described the people involved in protests as “misled, ignorant and mercenaries.”

He again called hundreds of thousands of protesters “rioters and terrorists,” emphasizing they should be punished. Indeed, he left no way for citizens to meet their demands but to exercise their right to self-defense.

Khamenei’s remarks also showed the regime’s domestic impasse to address the people’s fundamental grievances. He also sounded the failure of negotiations and appeasement policies followed by western powers. Therefore, the West should stop appeasing the regime, which only encourages the mullahs to more bloodshed and human rights violations in Iran.

November 26 marked the 72nd day of anti-regime protests in Iran. The demonstrations began following the heinous murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, in police custody. However, it immediately turned into a revolution against the entire theocratic regime.

According to the Iranian opposition Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), the protests have extended to 255 cities. The regime has killed more than 660 citizens, injured tens of thousands, and detained over 30,000. The MEK has published the names of 528 killed protesters.
