Teachers Protest in 53 Cities Across Iran

Teachers and educators in various Iran's cities and provinces protested in front of the Education Department of the cities on Thursday, November 11, to express their anger about the living conditions.

On Thursday, November 11, hundreds of teachers, trainers, and educators rallied outside the local education departments in 53 cities in 22 provinces across Iran, according to prior notice. They protested officials for failing to pay overdue salaries and to increase their salaries based on skyrocketing prices.

In recent months, dire living conditions have imposed unbearable pressure on millions of teachers and educators while they see no path to obtain their inherent rights except flooding onto the streets and openly declaring their grievances.

Today’s rallies took place in the capital Tehran, Kermanshah, Shiraz, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Andimeshk, Yazd, Lordegan, Qom, Kuhdasht, Ilam, Arak, Ganaveh, Marivan, Mashhad, Shirvan, Qazvin, Aligudarz, Pol-Dokhtar, Zarrin Dasht, Mamasani, Khorramabad, Rasht, Bandar Anzali, Borujerd, Mahshahr, Izeh, Tabriz, Marvdasht, Neka, Saqez, Zanjan, Bushehr, Babol, Dorud, Malayer, Sonqor, Amol, Hamedan, Razan, Ziviyeh, Sari, Jolfa, Dezful, Sanandaj, Urmia, Divandarreh, Daran, Bukan, Khorrambid, Bojnurd, Farashband, and Miandoab, according to the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

To prevent any protest and disperse protesters, security forces had been placed in front of education departments. Locals reported the heavy presence of security forces in some areas.

Furthermore, authorities in Tehran attacked protesting teachers and detained several teachers, including Massoud Farhikhteh affiliated with Teachers’ Trade Union in Islamshahr, activists reported.

“We will not surrender, nor give up, we demand the ‘Ranking Plan’ to be implemented,” “Imprisoned teachers must be released,” “We will not give up until we obtain our rights,” “Teacher shout your demand,” and “Implementing the Ranking Plan without deception,” protesters chanted.

“The government and parliament are obliged to approve this initiative. If this initiative is approved and implemented, the legal basis for teachers’ wage will be at least 80 percent of that of faculty members, because teachers and members of faculty boards should be receiving equal salaries,” the Iranian Teachers Coordination Council said in a statement the beginning of the new school year.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI President-elect, remembering the martyrs of the November 2019 protests, hailed the protesting teachers, educators, retirees, and farmers, who had taken to the streets today.

“[Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei, [President Ebrahim] Raisi, and other ruling murderers cannot evade the Iranian people’s Call for Justice, and the anger of the arisen people fed up with their oppression and injustice and have no way out,” Mrs. Rajavi said.

“The cries of Iran’s freedom-loving teachers across Iran, chanting today, ‘Teachers rise, defend your rights,’ and ‘free imprisoned teachers’ echo calls of all the Iranian people. On the anniversary of the November 2019 uprising, I hail the arisen teachers, educators, retirees, and farmers and pay tribute to the martyrs,” she added.
