Pumping of water to Camp Liberty comes to a halt as fuel for electric generator at the pumping station runs out
Call on the United States for urgent action to end the criminal siege on Camp Liberty
Since 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, August 26, pumping of water to Camp Liberty has come to a complete halt. This happens following 14 days of obstruction of entry of fuel to Camp Liberty by Maliki’s forces and as the fuel for the electric generator at the pumping station that is outside the camp finally ran out.
Thus, in the extreme heat of summer in Iraq, in addition to the lack of electricity, the residents are now facing a great crisis of being deprived of water which will result in extensive harm and damage.
Attempts by residents through UNAMI and the U.S. Embassy to take the fuel of a fuel tanker that has been stalled for a long time at the camp’s entrance to the electric generator at the pumping station got nowhere and Iraqi agents refuse to allow it.
Depriving residents of electricity and water in 48 degrees centigrade heat is a blatant case of crime against humanity whose perpetrators must be prosecuted.
Given the clear and indisputable responsibility of the United States and the United Nations concerning the health and security of the residents, the Iranian Resistance warns of the dire consequences of the cutting off of fuel and water to Camp Liberty and calls for urgent action by the U.S. government and the United Nations to compel Government of Iraq to immediately end this criminal siege and to allow free entry of fuel and other basic necessities of the residents and their free access to medical services.
