In response to the early morning attacks by Iraqi military forces on unarmed residents of Camp Ashraf, former United States Senate Robert  Torricelli (D-NJ) release the following statement:

“This is not just a random act of violence. It was an organized massacre apparently perpetrated by the al-Maliki government.  The residents of Camp Ashraf were assured of their safety by the United States government, and they have paid for the failure to provide that safety with their lives.”

According to sources at least 52 unarmed civilians have been killed.

UNHCR released the following statement confirming and condemning these attacks.  “The use of violence against a civilian population is unacceptable in any circumstances.  We call on the Iraqi authorities to immediately ensure the security of the residents. It is important that the violence stop and that medical help be urgently provided for the wounded.  The complete statement can be found here http://www.unhcr.org/522337136.html.
