For immediate release

On the eve of the visit of Iraqi Premier to Washington and the run up

to new round of nuclear talks with Tehran

Cross party gathering on crisis of Iranian refugees in Iraq.

On the eve of the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Washington DC and subsequent meeting with President Obama next week, scores of MPS in a cross party conference will articulate the necessary steps by the UK, US and EU to protect the lives of Iranian refugees in Iraq. The Iranian regime’s strategy is to use its growing intervention in Iraq and its Iraqi proxies to exterminate its main opposition, the PMOI, in Camp Liberty. By publicly demanding that Iraq extradite the seven Ashraf hostages to Iran, the Iranian regime is assessing the international response to its breach of international conventions that require protection for recognised “asylum-seekers” and “Protected Persons”.

The cross party gathering  takes place subsequent to the September 1 massacre of 52 defenceless Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf by Iraqi forces. Seven refugees, including six women, were taken hostage and their lives hang in the balance.

Hundreds of Iranians have been on hunger strike since the attack in several locations including London, demanding the immediate release of the hostages and guaranteeing the safety and security of 3,000 residents of camp Liberty. Many of the hunger strikers have now entered a critical phase after 8 weeks without food.

Representatives of different Iranian communities across UK will also take part in the conference

The conference would also discuss the upcoming nuclear talks in Geneva and Iranian regime’s attitude and the correct policy by the West.

The conference is chaired by Lord Carlile of Berriew  CBE QC. and Scores of prominent MPs and Peers will also participate including Baroness Boothroyd.
