With that in mind, we wanted to look at how Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian Resistance, would support women’s rights in a Free Iran. We have already looked at the freedoms, rights, and equality that Maryam Rajavi believes all women should enjoy, as well as her beliefs in equality in the family sphere and the prohibition of violence against women.
In this piece, we will look at why Maryam Rajavi believes women should be equally represented in political leadership and how she has worked to make that a reality in the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which serves as the Iranian parliament-in-exile.
Maryam Rajavi believes that in order to remove inequality, competent women should be given leadership responsibilities. She notes that this applies to all spheres, but that the Iranian Resistance should lead by example with women in high-ranking political positions.
Maryam Rajavi said that the campaign to put responsible women in positions of power in the Resistance has already succeeded, with women now occupying over 50% of leadership roles. Now women are leading the struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran.
Maryam Rajavi said that this helped women believe in themselves and showed them how necessary their roles are in the fight against the religious tyranny, which in turn helped them remove themselves from a world where a woman’s self-identity is reliant on others.
Maryam Rajavi said: “They parted with vices that would hold them back… all of which greatly deplete women’s energies. They also managed to replace attitudes of frailty and fragility with a sense of forte and strength. They shed their fears of facing defeat or exhibiting weakness in the face of difficulties. Instead of succumbing to pressure, they learned to cultivate the power within themselves to overcome defeat. Instead of losing hope, they learned to remain helpful and assiduous in opening the path to victory.”
She said that the women of the Resistance now stand beside each other as sisters and collectively tackle responsibilities, with progress for one seen as progress for all and serves as an inspiration for all other women
Maryam Rajavi said: “If democracy is not built on gender equality, the participation of all people, free choice of all sectors of society, and unconditional freedom of speech, then it would quickly deviate and take on reactionary tendencies.”
She noted that equality is inspirational for the Iranian people and that shattering sexism would help bring down the Regime because the mullahs’ misogyny is at the heart of their ideology. And therein lies why the Regime targets the Resistance to such an extent.
The Iranian Resistance is the biggest threat to the mullahs’ continued rule because it absolutely rejects the ruling ideology and behaviour which has injustice at its core and it believes that women are competent enough to assume leadership roles in a free Iran.
