Maryam Rajavi’s International Women's Day Speech: Part 3

By INU Staff

INU- On the occasion of International Women's Day on Friday March 8, the leader of the Iranian Resistance, Maryam Rajavi gave a speech to herald the Iranian women who are fighting against the clerical regime, which seeks to suppress, imprison, rape, torture and kill them.

In our previous part, we looked at what Maryam Rajavi said were the biggest problems facing women in Iran and the steps that Maryam Rajavi advises are necessary to women’s liberation in Iran.

Here we will look at Maryam Rajavi’s call to women across Iran to join the protests, as well as her hope for women in a future, free Iran.
Maryam Rajavi implored her “sisters across Iran” to start organising, to resist the Regime’s sexist activities, and to stand up to the mullahs.

Maryam Rajavi said: “Turn your pains, suffering, tears, and yearning into a force of struggle and progress. The future will be shaped in your hands and in your units of resistance and resistance councils.”

She said that women needed to:
• Fight compulsory veiling
• Protest the so-called morality police
• Support women and children who are street vendors
• Organise protests against the Regime’s attacks on women
• Actively participate in the protests

Maryam Rajavi said that the mullahs hope to divide society and paint the idea that things will ony get worse if the status quo changes to stop the Iranian people fighting back.
She said: “It is up to you, brave and aware sisters, to defeat this evil policy. It is up to you to rebel against the culture of surrender and it is up to you to cultivate solidarity, compassion, friendship and trust among our people.”

Maryam Rajavi explained that the Iranian Resistance is the key to change that will bring a brighter future for all Iranians and is already working towards gender equality the elimination of anything that helps to repress women or otherwise prevent their free choices.

Maryam Rajavi believes that
• Women must enjoy equal rights with men in all economic, social and political arenas regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, or social class, and that they should have equal protection by the law
• Women should be free to choose their place of residence, clothing, religion, occupation, education, and spouse
• Women should be free to choose whether to have children, get divorced, travel, leave Iran,

Maryam Rajavi said: “These ideals will be realized thanks to the iron will of the Iranian people, the Iranian Resistance and Iran's arisen women. Bolstering this bright future is a glorious history of Iranian women's struggle.”

She then cited brave female protesters, like Fatemeh Amini and Marzieh Eskoui who paved the way for the anti-monarchic revolution and Shirin Alam Houli who is leading the Iranian Kurdish people's resistance.

Maryam Rajavi said: “What does this shining history, filled with sacrifices and courage, tell us today? It tells us that this dark chapter is coming to an end thanks to the little hands of young school girls, the determination of suppressed and oppressed women of Iran, and the will of the arisen women and female leaders. Undoubtedly, a bright and shining future awaits Iran's women and people.”
