During the Free Iran conference in Ashraf 3, Albania, last month, Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian opposition, gave a speech about the exhibition on the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom. During that speech, Maryam Rajavi made clear the movement has had countless defeats and triumphs, but that the people would gain freedom in Iran eventually. Over this short series, we will explain her speech in full.
Previously, we went over Maryam Rajavi’s description of the Iranian people’s struggle from freedom from the beginning of the 20th Century until the 1979 revolution and the true goal of the anti-monarchic revolution that was cruelly snatched from the people by the mullahs. Today, we will look at the continued rise of the Iranian Resistance.
Over the past four decades, over 120,000 people have sacrificed their lives in the fight for freedom in Iran, including the 30,000 political prisoners who were massacred in the summer of 1988 because they refused to deny their allegiance to the Resistance. Over 500,000 more have been arrested and tortured for their pro-democracy actions.
In her speech, Maryam Rajavi then began to go over some of the torture methods used against Resistance members that were described by Regime victims who attended the conference. This included:
Maryam Rajavi said: “But despite all these tortures, they could not break their spirits. This is how the Resistance carried on and extended and expanded to Ashraf and Liberty.”
Of course, this was not the end of the mullahs’ torture of the Resistance members. At Camps Ashraf and Liberty in Iraq, the mullahs instituted a medical blockade, directed 300 loudspeakers at the camps so that the residents could never sleep, and launched 29 ground and aerial attacks, killing hundreds.
Maryam Rajavi said: “This was the price that every member of the Mojahedin has paid with his/her life and emotions. If you ask any one of them, they will tell you that their perseverance was based on three things: First, making a conscious choice and decision to pursue the path of God and the people, which is the path of history and evolution. Second, choosing to pursue the cause of the Iranian people’s freedom; … And finally, having a suitable setting for the realization of this goal, namely the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, which for the past 40 years the mullahs have mobilized all their evil powers to destroy.”
Maryam Rajavi said that the struggle is now at a turning point, with Ashraf 3 serving as a beacon for the Resistance, the 1000 resistance units springing up in Iran, and the volatile society that wants to overthrow the Regime.
Maryam Rajavi said: “On this path, the PMOI/MEK, whose Central Council is made up of 1,000 heroines, is a national asset for the people of Iran. Far beyond being a mere political organization, it is the focal point for their hopes and aspirations to obtain freedom and democracy. There is no doubt that freedom will prevail over dictatorship. The Iranian people’s moment of liberation is fast approaching.”
