The conference was attended by the National Council of Resistance of Iran President-elect Maryam Rajavi, and a great many internationally distinguished politicians and officials from France and other countries.
Ingrid Betancourt, the Former Columbian Senator; Fatoumata Diarra, former judge for the International Criminal Court; David Norris, senator who once ran as a candidate for presidential elections in Ireland; Marcin Swiecicki previously the Mayor of Warsaw and Sir Geoffery Robertson, the Sierra Leone UN Court president were among the speakers at the conference.
During her speech, the NCRI President-elect Mrs. Rajavi criticised the U.S.-Iran Nuclear deal, calling it disastrous for the region, as it has enhanced the terrorist activities executed by the mullahs’ regime. She expressed hopes that the new U.S. administration will revise this policy.
“The international community must end its silence and inaction vis-à-vis the mullahs’ crimes in Iran and the region,” she urged in her speech. “Any solution seeking to end Daesh is conditional on the complete eviction of the Iranian regime from the region, particularly from Syria. The people of Iran loathe this filthy war and stand by the people of Syria.”
The situation in Syria, particularly in Aleppo, was discussed at length during the conference. During the program, devoted to the Syrian crisis, many notable politicians spoke and expressed their feelings. Fadel Abdul Ghany, the director of the Syrian Human Rights Centre, was among the speakers.
“Many of the Iranian regime’s forces have been killed in Syria,” he said. “The Iranian regime is assisting Assad with logistics, arms, and personnel. They are also trying to instigate a sectarian war in the region. But they have a political goal.”
The Head of Aleppo City Council, Brita Haji Hasan spoke after Mr. Ghany. “Aleppo is under siege and it is being bombed and is burning,” he said. He blamed Iran, Bashar al-Assad, Russia and Daesh (ISIS/ISIL) for these atrocities. “The Iranian regime’s crimes in Syria are very clear. They are helping Assad both logistically and physically and they are sending their extremist militias to Syria to murder the people there in a fruitless attempt to keep Bashar Assad in power.”
He expressed his support for The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who would help defeat the Iranian regime and bring relief to the Middle East, especially war-torn countries like Syria.
Eyewitnesses of the atrocities in Iran also gave their accounts during the conference. Iman Afsahi, a 33-year-old student who had just escaped Iran in order to join the PMOI/MEK movement, told the heart-breaking story of his father’s and uncle’s executions by the Iranian regime. “I have come here to join the movement to obtain justice for the victims of the massacres in Iran’s prisons,” Mr. Afsahi said.
The conference also commemorated the victims of the 1988 Massacre in Iran where 30,000 people were executed in the space of just a few months, for their alleged support of PMOI/MEK. The crime remains an indisputable violation of human rights, given that even children and pregnant women had fallen victim to the oppressive regime.
“Our expectation and the expectation of the people of the Middle East is that the international community stops its policy of giving concessions to the Velayat-e Faqih regime and end its silence and inaction vis-a-vis the regime’s crimes in Iran and the region,” Mrs. Rajavi said. “Instead, we expect them to respect the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and the desires of the peoples of the region.”
