Day 45 of Iranian dissidents hunger strike in 6 countries

NCRI – The hunger strike by Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty in Iraq is on its 45th day. The protesters demand the release of seven residents taken hostage.

The hunger strike began on September 1 following the massacre at Camp Ashraf during which Iraqi forces under command of Nouri al-Maliki killed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and took seven residents hostage.

Hunger strikers at Camp Liberty, who, on average, have lost 10 kilograms, are facing critical health issues such as severe reduction of eyesight and hearing, digestive abnormalities and insomnia.

The hunger strikers demand international action to release the seven Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by Iraqi forces.

Among the hunger strikers there are many members of families of the hostages and victims of the September 1 massacre.

Simultaneous with the hunger strike in Camp Liberty similar protests are held in Berlin, Geneva, Ottawa and Melbourne. Protesters also demand an independent investigation into the massacre at Camp Ashraf.
