EP vice-president demands UN protect Camp Liberty residnets from attacks by Iran and Iraq

Alejo Vidal-Quadras told the UN leader while visiting Iraq that Iranian dissidents in Iraq were in ‘grave danger’ of further attacks sponsored by the mullahs in Tehran.

He said in a strongly-worded letter to Mr Ban: “I would like to take the opportunity to bring to your attention the very grave danger that the residents of Camp Liberty have been facing.

“All indications are that, when dealing with the organized opposition to the Iranian regime, the Iraqi government is the instrument of said regime. The September massacre in Camp Ashraf along with the kidnapping of seven residents and the latest attack on December 26th are all indicators of this fact.”

He added: “What adds to our worries is that given the current chaotic situation in Iraq, the Iranian regime and the Iraqi Government are determined to annihilate the residents of Camp Liberty. In an article published on the Iranian intelligence website on January 8th 2014, it is cited that the current situation in Iraq has created a golden opportunity to destroy the PMOI.”

Mr Vidal-Quadras – also President of the International Committee In Search of Justice (ISJ – urged the UN to ensure Iraq returns 17,500 T-walls that were removed from the camp, installs concrete fox holes and protective rooves for residents’ bungalows, distributes helmets and medical supplies and enlarges the camp to reduce population density, all as precautions reduce the casualties in future attacks.
