Iran: 74 Executions in Three Weeks

Wave of executions in different cities in Iran continues. The number of executions only from January 6, to January 28, has reached 74.

At dawn on Tuesday January 28, a 44-year-old prisoner was hanged in public in Qazvin. State-run media have widely spread the photos of this crime to create an atmosphere of terror.

On January 27, seven prisoners were hanged in mass in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj. Henchmen revived one of the convicts who had fainted before execution, and immediately executed him.

In the evening of Saturday January 25, a prisoner Evin prison and four other prisoners in Sanandaj prison were hanged. Another prisoner from Sanandaj was executed in the meantime.

On January 23, seven prisoners in Kermanshah , on January 2 and 3, seven prisoners secretly in central prison of Bandar Abbas, and on January 20, a 27-year old youth and two other prisoners in Zahedan central prison were hanged. In the third week of January, the execution of three prisoners from the villages of Delfan and Malayer were announced.

Moreover, 40 prisoners had been executed from January 6 to January 15.

Nationwide crackdown particularly barbaric death penalty that takes place solely to contain the anger and dissatisfaction of the oppressed people, has become more widespread since Rouhani took office. In 2013, more than 700 people have been executed which has been unprecedented in the last ten years.

The Iranian Resistance calls for strong condemnation by the international community of arbitrary and mass executions by the clerical regime and referral of gross violations of human rights to the United Nations Security Council. Silence of the international community in the face of these executions that are a disgrace to contemporary humanity merely encourages criminal regime to continue its crimes.
