Edi Rama said: “Albania is particularly concerned by Iran’s destabilizing behavior in the Middle East but also often disruptive activities in relation to the Iranian opposition community who have generously been hosted in our country after having been subject to despicable massacres elsewhere. We had to react firmly to a number of Iran’s illicit activities against our national security interests. We stand firm on the side of the countries that have been hurt by such activities both on the sea and in their land.”

Also at the UN, the United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan called on world leaders to take a firm stance regarding Iran, while the Yemeni Foreign Minister blamed Iran for the conflict in his country.

On a related note, Albania’s President, Ilir Meta, visited Ashraf 3 on September 13, alongside Fatmir Mediu, chairman of the Albanian Republican Party, and the President’s National Security Adviser.

Albanian President Ilir Meta visits Ashraf 3 and meets Mrs. Rajavi

While there, Meta held talks with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and toured the exhibition about the Iranian people’s 120-year struggle for freedom.

Meta told MEK members: “I had no idea about the extent of your sacrifice and the genocide you and your supporter have endured. Having the possibility to see so many people, women and children, massacred was shocking.”

He continued: “This was also an indication of a widespread movement inside Iran and showed how tyrannical the regime is. This is really bad not only for the people of Iran but also for regional and global peace and stability…I was very impressed with the Ten-point Plan of Mrs. Rajavi because it is based on fundamental freedoms and will guarantee prosperity and democracy for the Iranian people. All of us here in Albania are united in our support for your efforts and determination.”

Rajavi told Meta that the Iranian people will never forget Albania’s hospitality towards Iranian freedom fighters and that this gesture will be recorded in the history of relations between the two countries, adding that Albania’s decisiveness regarding the regime was reflected in the expulsion of the regime’s ambassador for involvement in terrorism. She said that Albania serves as a role model for other countries.
