Maryam Rajavi on Transfer of Power To Iranian People

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: The continuous protests of retirees, teachers, workers, and laborers bespeaks of the Iranian people’s unflinching resolve to confront an illegitimate and criminal regime. Supporting the protesters is a nationalistic and patriotic duty.

Upon the day that the clerical regime in Iran is finally overthrown, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) will be there immediately to manage the smooth transition between the end of the mullahs’ reign of terror and the handing over of power back to the Iranian people.

In this regard, the NCRI’s President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi said: “This duty shall be fulfilled at the end of a maximum 6-month period after the clerical regime’s overthrow by forming the ‘National Constituent and Legislative Assembly’ through free and popular elections, with direct, equal and secret ballots cast by the people of Iran.”

She said that once the ‘National Constituent and Legislative Assembly’ has been set up and they are ready to undertake and fulfil their responsibilities and obligations, the NCRI will then step down and hand over its resignation to the assembly as “the power and sovereignty belong to the Iranian peoples’ republic”.

Maryam Rajavi said: “The NCRI is duty-bound to transfer sovereignty to the people of Iran. It has declared that achieving people’s sovereignty…is the most precious outcome of the Iranian peoples’ just resistance.”

According to Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for a Free Iran, she maintains that her visionary constitution in the Iran of the future is based on freedom, democracy and equality, and the NCRI is determined to help build a free and democratic society. As Dr Mohammad Mossadeq, the former Prime Minister of Iran, once said, “The goal is to facilitate the participation of people in all respects and to empower them to run the country’s affairs”.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), as well as other vanguard activist groups, opened the path to overthrow the clerical regime many decades ago. Just like their predecessors, the Iranian Resistance has continued to do everything in their power to ensure that freedom of choice will be brought to every Iranian citizen.

Maryam Rajavi said: “We have rejected the ruling tyrannical regime. We have rejected a religion based on compulsion and misogyny. And we have rejected the Constitution of the Velayat-e faqih…Our Constitution has not been drafted by the Assembly of Experts, which is a collection of criminals. Today, our constitution remains engraved in the hearts of each and every Iranian. And tomorrow, it will be drafted by elected representatives of the Iranian people in a Constituent Assembly.”

She stated that Constitution rests on pluralism, separation of religion and state, women’s equality and the active and equal participation of Iranian women in political leadership roles. She also wishes for a society without torture and executions and believes in equal rights for all ethnic groups and religious minorities who call Iran home.

Maryam Rajavi said: “We have said since the onset, and we repeat, that as soon as the mullahs hold a free election, provided that it is supervised by the UN, we will immediately accept it and there would be no reason for continuing our resistance.”

Free elections are the main criterion, upon which the NCRI bases its relations, including with the clerical regime.
