In a speech to the Free Iran Global Summit in July, the opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi spoke about how the Iranian regime has been trying for years to destroy the regime through a series of demonization campaigns, executions, massacres, and terrorism.

“It has been seeking to convince the world that there is no alternative to this regime and that the world must get along with the mullahs. And when it failed to destroy the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), it claims that the PMOI/MEK and the NCRI are worse than the regime and therefore, again, the world must succumb to this regime,” she said.

Free Iran Summit Widely Supported in Iran

Maryam Rajavi explained that if the regime continues to rule, the outcome is very clear. The youth of Iran will be slaughtered, the wealth of the Iranian people will be stolen, and the islands and waters of Iran will be sold.

But she gives us hope that the regime will not be around for very much longer, highlighting that the regime has always been very clear that the Iranian Resistance is its “main enemy” and “first red line”. This is because the mullahs know who is capable of taking them down.

“In such a historic confrontation, one can identify the position and political coordinates of all forces and groups. On the one hand, there are the remnants of the Shah and the mullahs and individuals and groups who openly, unequivocally, and shamelessly prefer the mullahs’ regime to the NCRI, and particularly to the PMOI/MEK,” said Maryam Rajavi.

“But on the other hand, there are those who have stood up to this regime and are, therefore, with us or move in the same direction as the Iranian Resistance. This is the primary, most significant, and greatest demarcation in Iran today,” the NCRI President-elect added.

Maryam Rajavi: Iranian Resistance Learnt Invaluable Lessons from Major Moments

Maryam Rajavi noted that the mullahs’ and the Shahs’ sympathizers, as well as other de facto allies of the regime, side with the regime surrounding the issues of:

  • The peace movement during the 8-year-long Iran-Iraq war
  • the nature and identity of the regime after founder Ruhollah Khomeini’s death
  • the mirage of President Rafsanjani’s moderation
  • Khatami and his illusory reforms
  • sanctions
  • nuclear and missile projects
  • the snapback mechanism in the six suspended UN Security Council resolutions against the regime
  • the terrorist designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)
  • the elimination of Qassem Soleimani
  • the regime’s interventions in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen

The Resistance agrees with Iran on none of that and will fight to ensure that the wishes of the people are respected in all these regards.

“In order to understand and know every individual or group, one can simply ask them about their real choice in practice between the clerical regime and the NCRI, between the PMOI/MEK and the ruling mullahs, whether they are ‘moderates, reformists or principalists.’ Which one do they prefer? It is in response to this basic and fundamental question, where all parties reveal their true colors,” Maryam Rajavi said.
