Maryam Rajavi’s Speech on Women in the Iranian Resistance: Part 4

Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the Iranian opposition, gave an impassioned speech at the headquarters of the main opposition group MEK

In our previous pieces, we focused on Maryam Rajavi’s speech about the key discriminations against women, Iranian women’s widespread participation in the struggle against the two dictatorships, and how the Iranian Resistance has been dedicated to gender equality since the start.

Here, we will talk about how the Iranian resistance, particularly the MEK, and the women within it are encouraging more women (and men) to join the resistance to support equality.

Maryam Rajavi stated that the equality and emancipation of women will only happen on Iran is free from the Regime that suppresses all Iranians, but especially women.

Then, she spoke about how the Iranian resistance had profoundly rejected misogyny, which is why women consistently hold high positions in the movement. Maryam Rajavi said that the women of the resistance have defied the negative stereotypes about women and shown themselves to be “efficient and capable in shouldering more responsibilities and paving the way for their advancement”. Maryam Rajavi advised that women “can and must” lead the way in overthrowing the regime and bringing peace to the Middle East.

Maryam Rajavi said: “The emancipating message of the [the Resistance], and specifically the message of gender equality, has been embraced by young women and men in cities across Iran. The resistance units have expanded over the past two years. Women in the Iranian resistance have acted as the role model for them.”

She further explained that the young women have been inspired by Resistance’s “four decades of sacrifice and perseverance”, who are directed by “the cause of freedom and equality”.

Maryam Rajavi said: “At this point, I would like to salute Iran’s political prisoners especially my sisters who have been resisting and defying the regime in [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei’s jails in various cities. In addition to opposition to dictatorship, they have committed the unforgivable crime of being a rebellious woman. To be a woman and not surrender, to be a woman and persevere in the struggle, to be a woman and instead of thinking about yourself, think about the liberation of a people in chains, this is something that has driven the mullahs insane.”

She then addressed her sisters in Iran, who are fed up with the Iranian Regime and recognize that the regime is at an impasse.

Maryam Rajavi said: “The clerical regime is working day and night, to force Iranian women into submission. But Iran’s enlightened women and rebellious girls inspired by the 1,000 women of Ashraf, are following the tradition of an emancipating struggle. This is a role model devoid of all gender-based discriminations in outlook, standards, mentalities, and values. This is a role model where women are arisen, decisive, and capable of having an impact and opening the way.”

Maryam Rajavi finished by saying that Iranian women believe that their fate is intrinsically linked to the fate of their country, so they believe it’s their duty to save Iran from dictatorship and poverty.
