MEK: IRGC Must Be Dismantled

Given the destructive role and high budget of the IRGC, Iranian resistance calls on dissolving this institute and spending its skyrocketing budget on counter-coronavirus missions

The leader of the Iranian Resistance, Massoud Rajavi, has publicly urged the Iranian regime to immediately dismantle the Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

The Iranian Resistance leader gave two reasons for this:

  • To end both the oppression of the Iranian people and the regime’s military aggression abroad
  • To provide extra funds for the impoverished Iranian people to deal with the crises they face, including the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has now claimed over 111,000 lives in Iran.

Rajavi said: “The IRGC’s budget and its assets must be used for the health of the people and to help relieve the burden of COVID-19 in Iran.”

Following the resistance leader’s common-sense call for the disbanding of a military unit that suppresses the legitimate protests of the people for freedom and democracy with the added incentive of helping to contain a pandemic that is ripping through the country, the regime put its propaganda machine in full swing and quickly put up televised interviews with IRGC commanders. These heavily-scripted interviews tried to show the positive side of the IRGC, not that there really is one.

Abolfazl Shekarchi, the senior spokesperson and the cultural and deputy of the staff of the regime’s armed forces, said on September 21: “Defending the ideological frontiers of the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution is not only the duty of all institutions, organs, and even the army but the ‘natural mission’ of the IRGC.”

When he was asked to explain the ideological frontiers’ comment, Shekarchi admitted that it was about attacking the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

The MEK advised: “What should be made clear is that the IRGC has one goal only and that is to keep the mullahs in power, which means, in reality, suppressing any opposition both at home and abroad. As well as being responsible for acts of torture against Iranian dissidents at home, they also peddle anti-MEK propaganda overseas.”

In recent years, the Iranian people have chanted in their protests:

  • “No to Gaza, No to Lebanon, I give my life for Iran”
  • “Let off Syria and think about us.”

This shows that the Iranian people are fed up with the regime stealing from them and using it for suppression and foreign wars. And why would they feel any different?

Kermanshah MP Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, a member of the Majlis (Parliament) Security and Foreign Affairs Commission, admitted earlier this year that the regime has given $20-30 billion to Syria to prop up the Bashar Assad dictatorship. This while many healthcare workers haven’t been paid in months.

What’s more, the IRGC controls large sections of the economy from mines to banks to construction, which means that they can steal even more from the people. For years, the MEK has said that the regime’s rule is based on domestic repression and the export of terrorism and fundamentalism.

The people want the IRGC to be disbanded but the regime ignored that and launched the mullahs’ propaganda hour. Why? Because its’ not confident of the people’s support. It knows that the people yearn for regime change; thus, the regime’s days are numbered.
