MEK supporters hold demonstration in London over Iran flood

The MEK supporters also articulated their anger at the Regime’s poor response to the disaster – namely refusing to provide shelter, rescue people or distribute aid in favour of putting the Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) onto the streets to quell dissent. This shows that the Regime will always, even in the midst of a national crisis, put its interests and the preservation of the Regime, ahead of those of ordinary Iranians.

Hossein Abedini of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the umbrella group to which the MEK belongs, said: “The delay and procrastination in helping those who are besieged by the flood have increased the number of victims.”

The blame game
The Regime has refused to accept blame though, with the factions turning on each other and denying their involvement in the 40 years of disastrous environmental policies that have made floods more likely and more deadly.

MEK President-elect Maryam Rajavi noted in a statement that the Regime had “destroyed the channel that used to lead floodwaters out” in Shiraz.
In another statement, she said: “The disaster once again proved that the ruling mullahs’ 40-year policy of plunder and pillage has taken a heavy toll on the lives and livelihood of our people.”

Then, the MEK supporters advised that the Regime is deliberately misleading the Iranian public and the international community over the real death toll in the floods, claiming falsely that it is only 44 people when local estimates reach over 200. This, the MEK explained, has stopped international aid groups from offering appropriate help.

MEK leader Rajavi called for increased cooperation among Iranian civilians so that they could support each other when the Regime would not.
She said: “The only way and the best way is that we help one another…no other power is more effective and more accessible than the power of solidarity among us.”
What can the UK do?

Malcolm Fowler, a solicitor and former member of the Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of England and Wales, told the MEK supporters: “The neglect and deceptions of the Iranian regime over the catastrophic floods and landslides are characteristic of its disregard and oppression of all dissidents. [British Prime Minister Theresa] May’s Government must now take them to a task.”

Several other high-ranking British lawyers spoke at the rally to express solidarity with the Iranian people and call for a more “responsible” government.
The MEK supporters urged the UK government to condemn the regime’s response to the crisis and, along with the European Union, put pressure on the mullahs to provide disaster relief to the affected areas.

All in all, it is clear that the Regime cannot aid its people and so the people must overthrow the Regime and replace them with the MEK in order to ensure a free Iran.
