Regardless of Iran’s actual intentions in that particular instance, two other reports in Tasnim indicate that the Islamic Republic is positioning itself to become even more closely involved in the present Israeli conflict. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has reportedly invited representatives of both Mali and Sudan to engage in a trilateral parliamentary discussion over the Gaza situation. This fact becomes potentially alarming in light of the fact that Larijani also issued a statement calling for worldwide Muslim unity on the Palestinian crisis. That statement can be seen as supporting the conclusions of some commentators who said last week that Iran views any attack on Israel as helpful in showing Iran to be the leader of the entire Muslim world.
