Iran Must Be Evicted from Syria, Especially After Devastating Gas Attack

According the the New York Times,  April 7, in an emotional act, U. S. President Trump weighed his options. “I will tell you,” he said to reporters in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday, “that attack on children yesterday had a big impact on me — big impact. That was a horrible, horrible thing. And I’ve been watching it and seeing it, and it doesn’t get any worse than that.”

NBC News reports that in response to what it believes was a chemical weapons attack that killed more than 100 people, the United States fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Syria Thursday night. The strike was aimed at a military airfield in Homs, and all but one of the missiles hit that target, a U.S. military official told NBC News.

The strike was a complete policy reversal for President Donald Trump, and drew angry responses from Damascus and its allies.

The delegation of Syrian opposition who are involved in the Geneva talks have said that this chemical attack leaves future negotiations looking bleak, and point at Iran’s involvement in Syria and its effort to keep Bashar Assad in power.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made a statement, urging Russia and Iran to stop Assad’s use of chemical attacks.“While we continue to monitor the terrible situation, it is clear that this is how Bashar al-Assad operates: with brutal, unabashed barbarism.”

Federica Mogherini, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, held the Syrian regime responsible for this horrendous chemical attack.

Boris Johnson, British Foreign Minister, called for accountability for those behind the dreadful Idlib attack.

His French counterpart Jean-Marc Ayrault requested an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting.

Sigmar Gabriel, German Foreign Minister, said the world must not neglect Assad’s crimes.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Turkish Foreign Minister, condemned the Idlib attack as an inhumane crime.

On the ground in Idlib the scene is beyond description.  Physicians are calling on the international community for their support.

Idlib’s White Helmets warn of a humanitarian catastrophe in Khan Sheikhoun, as Assad’s bombing campaign targets their sites, and even known medical centers.

According to the Syrian Physicians Organization, the al-Rahme hospital in Khan Sheikhoun has been targeted in six different bombing raids. Assad’s forces don’t differentiate between military and non-military targets.
