On October 16, France and Germany issued a joint statement urging Iran to adhere to all of its commitments. Foreign Ministry representative Agnes von der Mol said that Iran shouldn’t go ahead with new measures that would increase temperatures citing remarks by the Iranian regime’s President Hassan Rouhani that Tehran is working on advanced IR-9 centrifuges to enrich uranium; centrifuges that are not mentioned in the JCPOA.

However, Amir Abdollahian, an aide to Parliament speaker Ali Larijani, said: “There is no hope for Europe in the implementation of the JCPOA. The fact is that there has been a real agreement between the United States, Britain, France and Germany over the weakening of the Islamic Republic of Iran…Instex does not have a driving engine either. Iran needs to take action to radically change the atmosphere of economic terrorism sanctions.”

Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former vice-president of the European Parliament and President of the International Committee In Search of Justice (ISJ), wrote that this fourth step is more serious than Iran’s previous violations. This is Iran advancing towards making a nuclear bomb, something that Europe and the other relevant parties cannot tolerate.

Europe says that if Iran takes this fourth step, it will have violated the JCPOA and be subject to a trigger mechanism, something frightening for the people. Yet still, the Regime isn’t stopping. Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Swedish counterpart to say that the regime is determined to take this step.

While Hassan Rouhani claimed that there was no dispute on JCPOA within the regime because it was controlled, endorsed and signed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, but what he meant was that the regime as a whole is in a strategic deadlock.

Vidal-Quadras noted that Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi had warned that the nuclear deal was doomed to failure months before its signing, noting that ordinary Iranians didn’t want these nuclear projects, rather they wanted a democratic and non-nuclear Iran.

Madame Rajavi said: “Acquiring the nuclear bomb, violation of human rights, the export of fundamentalism and terrorism are four pillars of Iran’s ruling theocracy. The situation of human rights in Iran, as well as the expulsion of the mullahs from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Afghanistan,  are the proper gauges indicating whether this regime has given up on nuclear bombs. Anything less, under whatever pretext, is deceit tantamount to capitulating to the catastrophe of nuclear-armed mullahs.”

The President-elect of the NCRI further urged for a firm policy on the Iranian Regime and the end to appeasement.

Vidal-Quadras said: “The regime clearly cannot afford to accept European and American conditions for giving up its “strategic depth” and limit the development of its ballistic missiles because then the religious dictatorship that relies on exporting terrorism and fundamentalism will lose its base. And this is the strategic impasse of the regime. Khamenei’s double defeat in the nuclear project and the collapse of the JCPOA represents an irreversible strategic failure.“
