The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) reported on August 18 that a warning has been given by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that the Iranian regime has now produced 200 grams of 20 percent enriched uranium metal.
The MEK said, “The Iranian regime continues to produce material that can be used in nuclear bombs…The IAEA released the findings in a report published on Tuesday, and it shows that the Iranian regime is making alarming advances in its nuclear ambitions.”
They said that in February, inspectors from the IAEA confirmed that at the Isfahan nuclear plant in Iran, the regime had produced 3.6 grams of highly enriched uranium metal, which the regime claimed they need for civilian purposes. However, European members of the 2015 nuclear deal, formally the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have expressed their concern over the regime’s production of uranium, as, under the JCPOA, the regime is prohibited from producing weapons-grade highly enriched uranium.
The MEK said, “World powers have been negotiating with the regime over its nuclear program in the past few months. But so far, no progress has been made. The last round ended in June.”
Grossi warned, at a convention for the IAEA board of governors in June, that the lack of progress in the clarification of questions regarding Iran’s safeguard declarations is affecting the ability of the IAEA to claim that Iran’s nuclear program isn’t a threat.
The MEK said, “Grossi expressed alarm that after many months, the Iranian regime has not provided the necessary explanation for the presence of the nuclear material particles at any of the three locations where the agency has conducted complementary accesses.”
The United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken spoke out at the time of the convention and expressed that it was unclear as to whether the regime was willing and prepared to do what needs to be done to be compliant with the IAEA.
However, the new report shows that that regime is continuing to defy the rules and threaten global peace and security as it ramps up its nuclear activities yet again.
The MEK said, “Following the latest IAEA report on the increase in uranium metal production, U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said the move was ‘unconstructive and inconsistent with a return to mutual compliance’.”
Price said in a statement that there is no credible reason for the regime to produce the uranium metal and that by them continuing to escalate the production, it will only push the country into further isolation and will not provide any leverage in negotiations in future talks regarding a return to compliance with the JCPOA.
In a speech at the Free Iran World Summit in July, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) warned that any concessions given to the Iranian regime in regards to its nuclear program would be a mistake.
She said, “any agreement that does not completely close down the regime’s bomb-making, enrichment, and nuclear facilities is unacceptable. And the Iranian people will not accept it.”
