Iran’s Regime Upset About the Decisions of the International Community

NATO 2021 summit

When it comes to Iran, it seems that the international community, despite all the wishes and expectations of the Iranian regime, will no longer appease this regime in subjects like its nuclear and missile program and its interference in the Middle East and its support for global terrorism and other malign activities like its support for the international drug mafia.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit on Monday, June 14 issued a statement announcing its commitment to prevent the Iranian regime from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

It stated in part of this statement: “We are committed to ensuring that Iran will never develop a nuclear weapon.  We welcome the substantive discussions between Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) participants, and separately with the United States, to accomplish a mutual return to compliance with the JCPoA by the United States and Iran.

“We support the goal of restoring the non-proliferation benefits of the JCPoA and of ensuring the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.  It is vital that Iran preserves the space for these discussions by avoiding any further escalation.

“We strongly support the IAEA in its crucial monitoring and verification work to help ensure Iran’s compliance with the NPT-related safeguards obligations, as well as its other commitments.  A restored and fully implemented JCPoA could also pave the way to further address regional and security concerns, including in support of the non-proliferation regime.”

About the regime’s support for its proxy forces and regional terrorism, the statement added:

“We condemn Iran’s support to proxy forces and non-state armed actors, including through financing, training, and the proliferation of missile technology and weapons.”

Pushing the regime to stop its missile projects, the statement added: “We call on Iran to stop all ballistic missile activities inconsistent with UNSCR 2231, refrain from destabilising actions, and play a constructive role in fostering regional stability and peace.”

The Iranian regime is frustrated about the international community’s decision. Its foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh in a tweet reacted and said: “W/ a disastrous record in our region, NATO & G7 have no high ground to preach from—particularly to Iran as an anchor of peace & security in the region. Equating aggrieved & spoiler only indicative of a flawed & politicized approach. Instead of lecturing others, abide by int’l law.”

But this frustration is not only related to the NATO decision. In a report about the result of the Vienna JCPOA talks, the state TV Channel 1 on June 14 said:

“Reacting to the fruitless negotiations in Vienna, our Deputy Foreign Minister said: ’The Biden government is an accomplice to crimes against humanity by continuing sanctions against Iran.’

“Abbas Araghchi, the head of our country’s negotiating team, wrote on his Twitter account: ‘In the last three years, the United States has imposed brutal and illegal sanctions on every Iranian anywhere in the world.’ He added: “’he current US administration is complicit in this crime against humanity in the 144 days it has been in office.’”
